🇭🇺 this is why I live in Hungary

Hey everyone, some of you may have already seen this video, but I wanted to post it again for my new followers. It’s a project I worked on last year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Visegrad 4 alliance between Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The Hungarian cultural association in London selected me to make a video in order to celebrate the anniversary an my task was to come up with a 5 minute (or less) video to explain why I love living in Hungary so much. This is what I came up with. It is a selection of clips and pictures and memories from my first 3 years in the country set to music from two of my favorite Hungarian musicians, Felix Lajko and Arany Zoltán. The video begins with shots and images of Budapest, the capital city, before heading out all over the magical Magyar lands in places such as Sopron, Tokaj, Villany and beyond. Obviously there are parts of Hungary which are not so great, just like in any country on Earth. But for this video I wanted to focus on the more positive side of life here, which is certainly abundant, particularly in the glorious spring time. It was nice for me to rewatch this video in order to have a foundation for my work over the year ahead. I hope that you will enjoy my little creation.

Szia mindenki, lehet, hogy néhányan már látták ezt a videót, de szerettem volna újra közzétenni az új követőimnek. Ez egy olyan projekt, amelyen tavaly dolgoztam, hogy megünnepeljük a Magyarország, Lengyelország, Szlovákia és Csehország közötti Visegrad 4 szövetség 30. évfordulóját. A videó felvételekkel és képekkel kezdődik Budapestről, a fővárosról, majd bejárja a varázslatos magyar vidéket, Sopronban, Tokajban, Villanyban és azon túl. Nyilván vannak Magyarországnak nem olyan nagy részei, mint a Föld bármely országában. De ehhez a videóhoz az itteni élet pozitívabb oldalára szerettem volna összpontosítani, ami minden bizonnyal bőséges, különösen a csodálatos tavaszi időben. Jó volt újranéznem ezt a videót, hogy megalapozzam a munkámat az előttünk álló évben. Remélem, tetszeni fog kis alkotásom.

Well narrated. I taught English in Hungary during the 2018-1019 school year. I hope to return this fall to teach yet again at Egressy Gabor Informatics High School in Pest. There is indeed something mesmerizing about Budapest, and in equal measure something magical about the rest of Hungary as well. But here's some trivia for you: Did you know? The very last original Line 1 (Yellow line) subway car does not exist in Hungary. No, that very last car resides in Kennebunk, Maine at the Seashore Trolley & Train Museum there. A bit of trivia for the man who treasures all things Hungarian. :)

The sad irony is that I came across this video on June 4, which is the memorial day of June 4, 1920 when the "victorious powers" decided to rape Hungary and carv up its ancient lands, dismembering it and make millions of Hungarians unwelcome "strangers" in their ancestral cities, towns and villages (officially the Treaty of Trianon or Treaty of Versailles😭🤬).

When I saw you eating langos it was only a split second then I realized you were in Kaposvar, my home town 3:15 (I also bought an insole in the shop behind you called Ortoped Cipeszet). I do not know that you two have visited the Zselici Csillagpark or not, but on a clear night in summertime is absolutely magical and you will never see such a view to the starry sky in your entire life, I highly recommend you to visit it if you did not already. Keep up the good work, we need different perspective of our country and it was nice to see you how you approach our Hungarian history, culture, language, poet and so on.

Hey WIllie, I'm a half Hungarian who has grown up in the UK. I have a half decent grasp on the language, but I have some way to go before I can call myself fluent. I met my Hungarian wife here in the UK and we have plans to move to Budapest in the following years. I have always been incredibly proud of my Hungarian heritage, but I have a lot to learn about its history and geography. Your videos are inspirational, educational and entertaining. Thank you.

I was thinking of Hungary for retirement. But it seems you have to make a large investment for 5 years and then get all but 50K euros back or a one time 150K euros fee to expedite. I like what I hear about the values in the indigenous population and the government actually does the will of the people. The USA is the most corrupt country in the world.

Wonderful job Willie, Petőfi or Vörösmarty couldn"t explain it better.... This coming from someone, who hated his own country Hungary, but after I traveled around so many places in the world, I felt in love with. Of course young age crtiticize everything - this was also between the reasons of my rejection. In age 22 I left my country full with resentment. But 3 years later I arrived back to start a new life... I learned the culture of optimism and watching to my homeland from different perspectives, from not too close, but through "others" eyes - and I loved what I saw. I like everything here... My only issue is that I doesn't found here (and nowhere else) what you already found: the love. But still I not gave up, and I'm sure that soon will arrive...

Thanks for the video. This is arguably the best, the most comprehensive and passionate clip of Budapest I have seen in under 5 minutes. I'm in complete agreement that Hungary is an amazing country right in the heart of Europe, literally and otherwise. I spent one week in Budapest checking out everything from New York Cafe to fisherman's bastion to ruin pubs, even Margaret island. Then I went to the country to Eger, Szilvasvarad, Vac, Nagymaros, Visegrad, Esztergom, Szentendre and others. It's so easy to love this place. Unfortunately today is my last day in Budapest and I fly home tomorrow. Adios!
