I was actually born in Szenna in a similar peasant home like they now have in their outdoor ethnographic museum. On our last visit, to my surprised, there is the same family in the village making some sort of strong spirit, I would imagine 'pálinka, made from grape seeds and skin, etc.At the same location, no less! I used to attend the school in Kaposszerdahely, and walk from our farm through this cool passage called a 'horhó.The area is truly beautiful with gently rolling hills, poppy fields and of course fruit trees everywhere. our farm had 14 of them, back in the day. I still remember whis ones where where, etc..Oh, if you are looking for ideas, try this place near Siklós, where there is a stretch of road with at lest 70 or so, family wine cellars, I mean real cellars. Of course vinyards are of plenty.

I hope to retire one day to somewhere quiet, simple and peaceful away from the U.S. A small country village just like the one in this video seems ideal. I value trees, fresh clean air, and kind people. It's especially helpful to have a video such as this presented in Hungarian for two reasons. One, if I'm ever fortunate enough to experience going to Hungary, I would need to understand how to speak with everyone there so watching this in the native language is very helpful (I just need to use translated subtitles for now) then watch regularly. The second reason is, it's a simple and relaxing video, even the music, so I could watch it over and over again, especially if I'm stressed.

Thank you for this lovely presentation. I am Hungarian, living with my Scottish wife in Canada. Growing up in Budapest I was fortunate to have relatives that lived in these beautiful villages that you are showing us today. I’ve often wonder where they are today as I cannot remember the name of the village. Would love to do a walk about, much like you are doing, as I have such fond memories. One of my favourable memories was watching a morning routine whereby cows from individual houses joined a herd walking through the village toward a nearby pasture. In the evening the herd returned and the cows would find their way back into their respective homes. Then of course the milking in the evening was another another highlight. All done by hand with the bucket below the udder. Rob & Hazel

The kinti folyosó seems to serve multiple functions: an airlock arrangement, a mudroom for removing dirty boots and outerwear, and also an insulative layer against outside temperatures. A clever vernacular arrangement. Folyosó, itself, as I learn just how many French borrowings have found their way into Hungarian, reminds me of foyer but finding etymologies for Hungarian vocabulary is beyond my ability
@learnhungarianwithme2 жыл бұрын
@annarboriter Igen! Tudomásom szerint a ‘folyosó’ nem francia eredetű, hanem egy ómagyar szóból származik. (As far as I know ‘folyosó’ comes from an Old Hungarian word.) De itt van egy jó kis francia eredetű szó neked: plafon. :)
