The winters got warmer and the summers cooled off, its like a paradise for weather here now too, as far as 4 seasons go anyway. Just enough rain and sunshine mixed in. I had an urge to go back to LA but keep asking myself why, Toronto has everything, its just missing one thing, the magic. But thats for the people of the city to make.

For me personally, Toronto strikes the right balance, the weather is nice, you get nice summers and also good winters for skiing/snowboarding. Great oppertunities (I work in tech, literally all big tech are in Toronto). Toronto is busy enough to have all sorts of fun things, but also not too busy like London, where you virtually cannot visit anywhere without forcing yourself onto the tube (forget taxis, you won't move a inch in an hour).

As an ex Canadian I agree with your list of reasons people choose to live in Toronto! Montreal would be in the running except for two reasons: language and the harsh winter. Of course, that’s somewhat compensated for by the underground city and the excellent metro but for many living on an island is an adjustment and the culture shock of living in a predominantly francophone society, means its not as immediately welcoming as Toronto. If Toronto weren’t insanely expensive, it would much bigger than its current size and in that regard, who knows what the future holds. Alina, thanks for your review of your favourite city in Canada, stay blessed and looking forward to your next video! 😊

Yes, Toronto is a great city - I lived there for years when I was just out of university and still enjoy going back there to visit. But the cost/benefit analysis shifts when you get older and start a family. Then housing costs and good neighbourhoods are king, and the Arts scene is less important. My adopted city of Ottawa is much better for families and has a great balance of nature, culture, opportunity and affordability. After living in Ottawa for a decade I looked at jobs in Toronto and Vancouver (which I also love) but there is no way I could afford to live in either of those cities, and sacrifice so many of the benefits of living in Ottawa.

I agree about the nature and food . Toronto also promotes ambition and positivity. If you work and live close to each other and have accommodation sorted it is pretty good However , traffic is a right off disaster and there is out of control crime including random TTC and street violence sometimes extreme random violence which I believe is because of growing poverty and mental health. Is it livable ? It all depends on your personal situation, income and accommodation. If you are a foreigner from second tier country I would say it’s incredible for opportunity but you’ll have to work 25 to 30 years long hours if you are starting from scratch . I miss Toronto but I couldn’t do the gta driving or work in the gta . I had to escape to the Georgian Bay region for 10 years to gain my sanity . Now I’m in Europe. Lived in Toronto for 2 years and visited periodically since. It certainly has the many good points you mention but has historically derived from what I will call a very 'straight laced' conservative past. In 1984 to 1986 the entire city shut down at about 12.30am. Can't go anywhere. Super hard to get home due to very limited bus transport, can't find any cabs anywhere. Forced to walk long distances in snow with freezing windchill effect. Taking 20 minutes to get the key in the door due to the cold numb hands, then putting your hands under hot water for 5-10 minutes to defreeze them. That was super weird and represented for me the conservative character of the city back then. Very stoic lot which is not a bad thing. Lacked vitality for me back then given a full on fun based Sydney upbringing of those days and then ventures over lots of Europe. Queen Street West best on offer as an arty/music/creative/lively area back then. The overall 'straight' edge lifestyle has changed somewhat now but for me cemented a general conservative attitude into the mindset of most living there. Sorry - but this impression has stuck with me. My experiences of Montreal is it is a lot livelier. Flying over Toronto these days it is amazing how large the urban area has extended.
