Ok, I'm a PC guy. I've also worked in radio broadcasting for 19 years and have done voice-over work as well. I've helped a family member record podcasts using my old Mackie 802VLZ3 and an ASI5111 PCI Soundcard in my desktop with breakout XLR cables going to the Mackie and XLR cables back into the ASI sound card stereo input cables. I had to manually configure the Mackie board to create a mix minus for phone calls via cell (using an Irig device also). It was a bit of a pain. The Mackie board still works, but it's getting old. I'm looking to upgrade without spending a fortune. I want the functionality of a radio station production studio at home😁: Voiceover recording to DAW(sound forge, Vegas Audio, etc.). I've looked at the Zoom L8 & the Roadcaster Pro by watching your videos. Based on what I've told you about my audio experience professionally, what would you recommend?
@DarkCornerStudios3 жыл бұрын
Honestly I LOVE the Zoom Livetrak L8...as long as you can get a monitor controller... You may find a lot of the "bells and whistles" offered by the RCP to be a bit much and not necessary for your workload. For price to performance...and especially coming from a mackie...I would say the Zoom L8 will feel like a walk in the park...especially with the multitrack abilities...(Without the breakout cables into a sound card...). The included mix minus and all the other bells and whistles on the L8 are cool...but it is also a rig meant for a studio... One that does more than a weekly podcast. Let me know what you decide...and good luck.

Hello (I'm Portuguese so my English might not be that good). I watched your video and I honestly want to thank you. As you know, Rode did update the drivers and made it possible to do multichannel via USB. I believe that its because people like you, that do honest reviews like yours, that Rode (and other manufacturers as well) step up and try to respond and fixe the problems that some people find. Honestly we can't expect that when the engineers think and design a product that they can imagine every single case of use for that product. But Rode seamed to have listen to people and their problems and said well, some of that we can fixe, and they did. So thank you, I bought a Rodecaster pro this month and I'm very happy with it (I'm a Mac user so I don't know how it behaves in windows). I bought the RCP last week and I confirm literally what this video concludes about the drivers and recording via USB into Audition Furthermore, even if you transfer files recorded on RCP onto Laptop and then put in Audition, it's the same thing. Insanely low sound levels. I'm still keeping mine because there's just too many things I love about this machine and it fits my needs to a tee. Having said that though, it's very frustrating. My workaround has been boosting my audio after recording into Audition by Normalizing before anything else, then I can go about my editing with wavs I can see and hear... But normalizing is probably not idea. But anyway, I can confirm this has been a problem with me, and I wonder if it's a Windows thing or the same deal with Macs as well.
@talkingbuffalo4 жыл бұрын
@Arriaga Two Yes. Same issue. If I record to the card directly and then transfer the files onto DAW on computer the levels are too low (way too low) and need to be boosted.. Also, yes you can record both Computer and RCP at the same time. It's a great machine as a whole with a few significant (in my opinion ) flaws.. Mic levels, file transfer times from RCP to computer if you record direct to RCP, and the processing options are on or off only instead of being able to dial in the perfect level that works best for your voice

Your comment about Adobe Audition is interesting. I’ve been using the Rodecaster Pro to record content for commercial radio programs for about 2 years. I have a $2000 UAD 8 p and an Antelope pure 2 also about $2000 dollars and a MixPre3 ii about $750 dollars but on windows ASIO only sees the first port unless you use voicemeeter potato and fiddle around. This has good preamps and it can take dial in telephone calls and is so simple to use. Not sure why you are complaining about ASIO. You look very experienced and ASIO and USB in Windows has always been a nightmare. The recent forward upgrade brought even more adjustments to the audio tweaking capability. Not a PC whatsoever. It is a driver issue. At that pricepoint, the inclusion of proprietary ASIO drivers is expected. I have never once run across something like this. For starters, I loved the RCP as a unit, and I would have kept it if it wasnt for those ASIO4all drivers, which if you work in the audio industry, are widely considered crap. As for EVERYONE loving the RCP...it really isnt true...we have a support group...trust me...WE are out there. And honestly...it is the same issue for everyone. Now, also keep this in mind...people can disagree of favourite gear...and it isnt a personal attack. If you like...or dare I say LOVE the RCP...cool. For me, and MY workflow...which is what the video was about...it DOES NOT WORK. All that aside...were I rocking a mac...which does not require 3rd party drivers...the RCP would have worked perfectly for me. Took a hell of a long time to tell me it was its use as an interface that you didn't like. Always best to record locally imo. Then you never have problems. But this thing is expensive.

Took a long time for me to figure out the issues. You were just along for the ride. I should have done more of a review than a first impression style... Either way...remotely does work...though I really wish it was better as an interface

Hello, I have the same equipment, but everytime I turn it and off, it releases a loud sound throughout headphones and monitor outputs. Yours does the same?, because Rode support tells me it is normal. I would appreciate your kind response. Regards
@DarkCornerStudios4 жыл бұрын
Yeah...it is normal. You should turn your gain down each time you power it off and on again
@franciscoaguilar93234 жыл бұрын
@@DarkCornerStudios Thanks. But it sounds even the gain is down in either speakers or headphones (it stills heard if you down gain?). I appreciate your kind response.

@@franciscoaguilar9323 is your 48v off? That is usually the pop Keep that off until you use the ewuipment
@campechanomedia3 жыл бұрын
It’s common studio procedure to turn of speakers and disconnect headphones before turning off equipment, to minimize or avoid pops and clicks. Doesn’t happen with all types of equipment but in the case of the RCP, I recommend you to do it like that. First turn RCP then Speakers and connect headphones. First turn off Speakers and disconnect headphones then turn off RCP.

wow, that is disappointing. i primarily do live and using this as an interface is a must. but if it isn't going to work out of the box, seems like too much of a pain at the price point. i am truly sad. thanks for the video

I’m literally having the struggle between purchasing either the Studio Live and the rodecaster since both are portable.

Are you planning on doing anything other than podcasting? If yes, I would go with the StudioLive... If not, the Podcaster is a wildly powerful little unit. That said, The Zoom P8 is due out soon....... Thanks for watching!

Nice overview and spot-on opinion considering the time frame you recorded this at. Shame the vid has more negs than pos votes. I think it shows how impatient viewers are and most probably didnt watch it (to the end at least).

Usb mics are their own little preamps. Thats why you will never find boards that take usb. You could always drop a bit of cash on a mic upgrade
@nike12000haha3 жыл бұрын
You can get a usb-a to usb-c and plug the yeti into the board it works I have verified... however then it’s just you and the board no way to hook to your computer.

I just bought it yesterday and was skeptical that why is there no bad feature on this unit till I came across your video. @@nike12000haha Well, gaming is a BIG one...as for someone like me, that is a massive deal. But here goes - 1 - Customization and Nvenc Encoding 2 - Cost 3 - Customization 4 - Less problems with updates...and yes...this IS a MASSIVE issue everytime there is an OS update for macs. 5 - Repair and support is ridiculously cheaper 6 - Available vram is higher on most PCs... 7 - Nvidia graphics cards that can do A LOT MORE I could continue, but I will leave it at that. The plug and play ability with a mac is superior...not gonna lie...but for a daily driver, the PC wins for A LOT of people...and is why you will find a PC in major studios more often than a mac. Cheers!
