I think all the prep paid off. The car came out exceptional. I remember spraying whole cars back in the lacquer days. I also remember wet sanding and buffing the vehicle because it was sprayed in the home garage. No Internet. No KZbin. Just learned from trial and error. Thanks for taking the time and bringing us along. Enjoy your evening.

Yeah I've been messing with epoxy and it really is a challenge to get anything totally clean. There's always some spec of dust floating around. I was almost surprised to see that's an issue in a professional environment, but I have thought about a clean room and how hard that is to keep dust free. Especially for painting it's even harder with all the dust, very well done for sure.

These kinds of results should never come cheap unless you're doing it for the wife or for your mom. I watched the video again because I remembered so much going on here. A customer who cares about having their car all one color after it's been recently repaired are rare and for the most part aren't afraid to spend the money. It would have been great to record the customer do a walk around,seeing the expression on his/her face. I'm sure the owner is more than pleased with the final results. Great video.

Some recommend doing the drop coat or coats crossed in direction to help enhance uniformity. Have you tried that? Might be tricky on the roof though.
@dennisgruba47929 ай бұрын
I always do a cross coat by actually turning the fan nozzle not tilting the gun. I sprayed business jets and certain areas have to be smooth within .003-.005” inch in front of the static ports for accuracy. Cross coats are the only way to achieve that without block sanding or buffing. On cars I still use that technique to prevent zebra striping and when I sprayed houses it was super important to eliminate zebra stripes and get the correct wet mil thickness for warranty coverage and UV durability here in the South

Hey Brian, back in March I painted a car silver metallic and cleared it with Acme Finish 1 FC720 and FH612 medium hardener. No issues until today when I spilled some gas while pumping and it bubbled up the clear and paint right below the fill hole on the quarter panel. Did I do something wrong? Not enough curing time? Great video Silvers and also Charcoals can always be tricky. Definitely the prep for silvers them metallics will find the smallest scratch to lay in. Last week did 4 silvers in a row though for sure I pissed the paint Gods off Lol. The only place was the hoods that gave me problems in the past. First pass horizontal second vertical then orientation coat. Always slow reducer a must. That’s what I found works for me on a complete. I’ve learned spray it don’t play with it just because it’s Silver. Can’t be dusting here dusting there thinking you see something you don’t. Just spray it like you say it’s only paint. So you like the Sikkens system Noble been treating me pretty good just got there Valorem system put in my shop a couple months ago. Best sealer I’ve sprayed lays down flat. Camera is also pretty good. Only problem with Noble there metallics are always to course. Always have make adjustments on formulas. Sprayed there Imperium same problem. You have that problem with Sikkens? But once again great video. Can always learn keep an open mind that’s how I feel about this Industry.

Brian could you split a pickup truck job into two stages and still get good results with a metallic silver. If I painted the bed on one day and the cab another it would reduce my stress and the clear wouldn't fog up the garage so bad. I wouldn’t over reduce the slow to help slow down the dry time.. it will reduce the color coverage of the base to much. You can put your first two coats on and then over reduce it a little for your final drop coat but if you don’t normally spray that way I’m not sure it’s a method for a do it yourselfer because you don’t want to cause other problems for yourself. He then says he wants to change the car color. His tone worsened when I told him about $4000 because of the work involved, and that's still cheap. He claimed he could get it done cheaper elsewhere. Good for him, as I would rather not touch anything of his at this point because he doesn't respect the time, labor, and material costs involved. Not to mention, he wants it done in a fast manner. Nope, nope, nope.. I'm not a shop and work a full-time job alongside him. What am I supposed to do... endure staying up all night and go to work for days, for pennies???

The only silver car I ever liked was a little shitbox small car, what made it stand out is the guy had silver tint put in the windows which matched the shade of the silver almost exactly. Looked Boss! Old guy that worked my cars showed me how to degrease an engine. spray oit down with degreaser in a stonechip gun so it foames over nice. leave it for ten minutes, then come in with the pressure washer... of course My cars are 30 and 48 years old, so much less electronics to avoid.
