All four of the Ripper albums (the two studio albums and two live albums) are in the new 42-cd boxed set. Jugulator was in purgatory for a long time due to SPV going under but their current label at least has rights to put it out in album format. Streaming rights might take longer, but it wouldn't surprise me if it popped up in Apple Music/Spotify/etc.

@@freakazoid4691 Jugulator is pretty much an album best left to what the fans make of it and people either like it or they don't. I would say that they updated themselves to what was going on at the time. In the 90's, post thrash and groove metal was popular and detuning guitars made for a thicker and more powerful sound, so Priest did that accordingly. They clearly had some pent up rage inside given the harshness of the songwriting (especially with songs about corruption, death sentences, beheading, brain death, abductions and the end of the world). They've always done that. In the late 80's for example, they went for a faster and more aggressive sound with Ram It Down and Painkiller to match the intensity of thrash metal groups.

Jugulator is a great album. I love Priest albums all the way from the 70s and 80s and since Jugulator was released I always thought it had some awesome creative atmospheric musical elements. It's also an album where Ian Hill truly shines. Priest has always been a band that evolved and experimented with their sounds and style and this album definitely continues in that vein. Much more so than their latest 3 albums, which sounds much more like recycling old ideas instead of pushing the boundaries further like they used to do all the way since the 70s until Angel of Retribution...

Jugulator is actually what got me into Judas Priest. I would not have called myself a fan prior, though I did like Painkiller. I was curious about the singer change and gave the album a chance, and I really liked it. Though I do have a few thoughts about it. I fully believe that they knew coming out with a new singer would be a tough sell, so they decided to go as heavy as they could in order to blow the doors off anyone who was a skeptic. I think they came up with the harshest, most brutal lyrics they could, which resulted in some real groaners to be sure. I mean, "Decapitate" is just a song about getting your head cut off. Just silly, dumb shit. But getting past that (which I totally understand if people can't), there are some real bangers. Blood Stained, Burn in Hell, Abducted, Bullet Train, etc. Just killer songs. I think once they figured out Tim's ability better, they dialed in a better album with Demolition, which I think is an absolute masterpiece. I missed out on the chance to see them live during this era and have been kicking myself since.

I was very surprised at how little a deal Priest made their reunion album. And it blows no Priest album away. It was just another album. Halford put more energy into War Of Words, Voyeurs, Resurrection, than that album. Judas Rising...Fair but Halford sung slow, there was nothing innovative or special about it. No catchy Priest intro. Deal With The Devil...Not even metal. A filler song. Revolution...Seemed like a forced attempt at pleasing the mainstream. Not metal, fell flat. Worth Fighting For...Maybe the best song on the album though not a classic. Demonizer...A weak attempt at a Painkiller type of song. Wheels Of Fire...Not bad but nothing special. Angel...The album was too light on energy already. This song dragged the album down even more. Eulogy...Priest teasing their retirement and still put out material almost 20 years later. It was also slow and more filler material. Lochness....Actually was performed well. But a song about the Lochness Monster can not ever be cool. Dragged out for 13 minutes. Which helped make well over half the album filler material. It was unforgivable of Priest in 2005 to sell their devoted fans who had hung in there...that lazy effort. But it signalled the coming of a new, slower, Codger Priest who could no longer play metal and in four albums since their reunion....not one single great, classic song. If more Tribute To Judas Priest Albums come about, few bands will seek to cover their post reunion songs.

Jugulator stripped out the pop metal elements of classic Priest, as exemplified in classics like "Living After Midnight," and "You've Got Another Thing Coming." Instead, they built on the heavier and more aggressive elements of Painkiller and certain other really heavy tracks from the band's back catalogue. Astute listeners can also detect definite influences from Pantera and a bit of South of Heaven era Slayer. Personally, I love Jugulator! I mean, I have tremendous respect for Rob Halford, and I hold classic Judas Priest in high esteem. But Tim "Ripper" Owens recorded a brilliant debut with the band.

Wait, what version of the picture hasn't been released until recently? Certainly not the one that's in the picture when you mention this. It's on the inside of the Back Cover in the original CD. That came in a transparent case. I always wondered why they didn't take it as the cover and went with only a part of it that they enhanced badly. Looks very pixelated. Anyway, "Jugulator" was only my second album by Priest, after "Defenders of the Faith". I bought it because it had a TV Commercial on German TV (the following live album had one too). I always liked it. Now, knowing all the albums, it's not near my top spot. But there're some I like less. I always wanted to hear Halford sing "Cathedral Spires".

If you think about it , think that as KK & Glenn said , Jug was a prolongement of Painkiller darker and heavier , but as it have almost 7 years between both its like 2 stepping albums missing if rob stayed to go into jugulator . But , if you break it down the riff section of the solo of raw deal with the double bass drums , the last chorus riff of Killing machine , and more evidently Dissident Agressor , not only it was a prototype of heavier stuff and groove metal , and if you change the production slightly and down tune it , the composition isn't that different of Jug ., the riff is similar , the drums are already there .its updated on that Painkiller prolongement hard edge wise.

+1.Nostradamus is the worst album of JP. It was professionally played and recorded, as usual, but ... conceptual-metal-opera-wanna-be-power-metal style of album just does not fit JP ( despite I generally like the the experiments, but this one is failed IMHO )

I really couldn't get into Nostradamus either originally. Then I cut the double album down to the most "Judas Priest" sounding songs, and haven't looked back. It's still got the same epicness of the concept, but, for me, really works as a single traditional - yet simultaneously experimental - Priest release. I recommend people give this a try, you just might get into it in this form. Cheers! My version: 1. dawn of creation 2. Prophecy 3. awakening 4. Revelations 5. War 6. sands of time 7. Death 8. peace 9. Conquest 10. Persecution 11. solitude 12. Alone 13. shadows in the flame 14. calm before the storm 15. Nostradamus 16. The Future of Mankind

Personally, I LOVE this album!! I saw them when they came to Detroit for the tour for this album, and really think that show was where my hearing loos started. lol Then saw them at a tiny place (Hard Hat Cafe) in Toledo, OH, for the next album. That show was incredible, maybe 200 people seeing Judas Priest play in basically a warehouse. We were able to walk right up to the stage and watch the show. I think it was a "tune up" show, to work the bugs out of their stage show for the big tour. Such an incredible memory. What i really love about Jugulator is that it is way heavier than other JP albums. Before they broke up, they seemed to be getting a bit stale to me. I knew that Glenn had the ability to do some incredible guitar stuff, but with the exception of songs like Metal Meltdown and Painkiller, we never got to hear him shred like a true metal guitarist. Once Ripper came into the mix, we got to hear the songs as Glenn and KK wanted the band to be, since the songs were already written when Ripper came into the band. When Rob came back, you can hear how much the band changed, on the subsequent albums. They are heavier and the lyrics are much more complex and mature, and more "Intelectual" I guess would be what I mean. Not just breaking the law and partying. lol I love all Judas Priest eras, but have a special place in my heart for the Ripper Year. My dram would be that the band would do something like Bullet Train or Machine Man (From Demolition), in their live set. But I guess if we got all of our favorite songs in a show. the live set would be 10 hours long. lol

Yes to the Tim Ripper Owens video! Jugulator is a good record, it’s problem IMO is the lyrics. Up until them, Rob wrote the lyrics and I think this was the first time Glenn and KK had to do it.

@@TheMetalOG70 For sure, from time to time, although if you see a song which has a Halford credit, it most certainly meant Rob wrote all or most of the lyrics because that’s what Rob’s writing forte is. They were actually written by Glenn on his own, and you’ve got to admit they aren’t that good. Cheers!

Being a Priest fan since 1978 you hit the nail on the head the direction of Priest after Painkiller or the followup was Jugulator Priest where headed in a heavier direction same fans just could not get on the Jugulator bus when I heard it I love it, it's prob the heaviest Priest record, really sad and stupid how Priest has basically written off the Ripper years, not even a mention in the Rock and Roll of Fame , the guy came in with massive shoes to fill, did the best he could kept Priest alive , as you stated when Rob left Priest could of just hang up it, they had their success the 90's Metal scene was headed in a different direction , they found Ripper to keep the band afloat, moving forward KK's Priest with Ripper on vocals is killer, I don't know the politics of the Ripper years but Iron Maiden has not removed Blaze or the records they done with him from their catalogue, it's a part of the bands history, funny Priest in someway cancelled the Ripper years :(

He hooked me up with a bunch of signed Dio stuff before Ronnie passed, as well as signing some old Winters Bane stuff for me. Odd to me though how his first JP album was his best with them, his first Iced Earth album was his best with them, his first Charred Walls of the Damned album was his best with them....seems to be a pattern developing.

Funny story, I actually became a metal fan because of this album and totally by chance. In late 1997, a metal magazine (Rock Brigade from Brazil) was delivered to my home by mistake. I didn't know anything about rock music in general much less metal so everything in this magazine was mystical to me at that point, and bear in mind I was 9 at a time and place where there weren't many available appliances to keep a child's attention so this magazine entertained me for a long time, also I was poor and didn't have video games so this shit was the hype at that moment even though I didn't know ANYTHING about the music lol... didn't even imagine what it was like. Inside it there was the listing of recent launches where the cover of Jugulator really stood out for me and again by chance (or not), I'm with my mom at a CD store and find this gem then kindly ask (beg) her to buy it. The musical influences I had till then was classical music, local pop and country music, had never heard anything like that (could make a case for the classical music) before and it didn't quite blow my mind right away but listening alone in the car again and again (nothing else to do lol) it became my thing. My friends were all into Green Day and The Offspring so they hated this, but eventually they became metalheads too a few years later. I still have it in my playlist, Cathedral Spires has been always my favorite but there are so many great ones in this album. Cheers from Brazil!!

It's so aggressive that you can feel the Groove/Death Metal influences and, at least to me, I don't see any weak moments through the 10 tracks. In fact, it's one of the Priest albums which I can often listen from start to finish. I could talk about any song, but Cathedral Spires is probably the most underrated Priest song for me. @A Antonson "One on One", "Machine Man", "In Between", and "Feed on Me" are bangers. I think some of these songs, if Rob did them, people would love them. Jugulator is a stronger album front to back. As Metal Pilgrim alluded to, the tension between KK and Glenn started around this time. Would have been interesting to see how the sound would have evolved with Tim, but I also see why there was no way his time in the band was going to be acknowledged much once Rob came back. The KKs Priest album with Ken and Tim is pretty good, though it doesn't hit me as strong as other offshoot projects, like the first Fight album. I'm grateful Tim Owens kept the band active with new music in the time Rob was gone. It's part of their legacy.
