The key barometer of the series was when Shawn Marion wasn't in foul trouble the Suns won. When he was in foul trouble the Lakers won because Marion's energy and rebounding was essential to the Suns offense without the rebounds they can't control the pace.

Idk if I can agree with Chuck. I rewatched that game a few weeks ago and the Lakers started that game horrible. They were missing layups, they were missing wide open shots, they were fumbling the ball instead of finishing at the rim. This game was over basically in the 1st qtr. Yea Kobe came out and hit some shots in the first half, but the rest of the team didn’t have it and he saw that. If Kobe would’ve went out there and scored 50 then they would’ve lost by 20 instead of 31. But idk I guess it was worth a shot to try lol. But one thing someone put me up on was every time Kobe’s team lost the final game in a series, knocking them out of the playoffs for some reason they always get blown tf out!

@anthonycelestin3559

With looking at the plays from the 2:28-3:13 mark, I don’t see how Kobe quit. Maybe Kobe could’ve been more active off the ball by moving without the ball or cutting. But if Kobe is moving without the ball, it would make Kobe’s teammates want to pass the ball to him even more which would be against Phil’s strategy of the offense not being ran solely on Kobe in the second half. Kobe moving without the ball is a signifier of trying to get open or a way to attempt a shot & that’s not what Phill wanted. Phil wanted Kobe to pass the rock & have his teammates create for themselves cause it would entice his teammates to play better defense if their were more involved in the offense. Kobe was not distorting the spacing by being out of the play. It’s not like what Harden did in HOU standing around near halfcourt when he’s out of the play. Kobe was just standing at the top of the 3 close to the proximity of where his teammates operated. Even with Kobe standing around not being directly involved in the offense, Kobe was calling plays where he brought the ball up as the PG & Kobe pointed to his teammates where to be or pass to when he was off the ball. Kobe communicating to his teammates on where to be & where to score shows he was involved in the plays. Kobe was trying to be a decoy because Kobe didn’t want the Suns defensive attention on him due to what Phil wanted from him. Kobe is so polarizing, no matter what you say, people will be convinced Kobe quit when it’s far from the case. You can see Kobe didn’t quit just by the film. People think if you not running around a bunch of screens like Curry your selfish & your just wrong about that. Fans need to understand the game of bball before u start projecting certain false narratives or taking fiction as facts

@@sanantoballa4834 Kobe is damn if he does, damn if he doesn’t. Kobe wasn’t standing around mindlessly. He was constantly pointing to his teammates where to pass the ball to. If you watch the series Kobe wasn’t that aggressive shooting the ball when his team was up 3-1 in the series. When Kobe made the GW in Game 4, Kobe only took 14 shots & that game went to OT. The Lakers went up 3-1 with Kobe playing team ball & barely shot the ball on high volume. Game 5 the Suns adjusted to Lakers gameplan of Kobe shooting & scoring the ball only occasionally & the Suns blew the Lakers out. So Kobe try to counter the strategy the Suns were doing by being aggressive scoring 50 & they lost. The media criticized Kobe for being so aggressive that Game 6. And Kobe was aggressive in the first half of Game 7 & the Lakers were getting blown out. In the second half, Kobe went back to the gameplan that got his team up 3-1 but it didn’t matter. Blame Kobe for the 04 Finals, the 08 Finals, 2011 playoffs vs the Mavs or 2012 playoffs vs OKC but blaming Kobe for the 06 lost to the Suns is so unfair. That Lakers wasn’t even a good team like that & it’s a miracle that the team even went up 3-1 against a good PHX team. Kobe did his job as a team player but he gets criticized for it. It won’t matter if Kobe eventually try to be more aggressive in the second half of Game 7, it still wouldn’t work, the Suns were just a better team

So he was damned if he do damned if he don’t to me that seems like hate by media and haters. The fact that he was up 3-1 on the Suns with the team he had is remarkable. Like I said LBJ on that team he gets swept same thing had Kobe and Nash switched teams Nash on the Lakers would get swept too. Get out your feelings. Game 6 Kobe dropped 50 played great enough to win but came up one rebound short and Tim T. hit the 3 to tie the game. The Lakers needed to win game 6 at home to win that series cuZ Kobe and the Lakers was not winning game 7. So again media and hater’s was saying he was a ball hog but they was winning and Kobe needed to be a ball hog but he proved his point. Just imagine Kobe on the 2007 Cleveland team that was number one in defense, Kobe would of loved playing with a number 1 defense team and he could shoot as many time’s and the team still playing defense. Kobe on that 2007 Cavs beats the Spurs in the finals definitely would not get swept by the Spurs Kobe owned the Spurs.
