After watching Avengers: Infinity War, you might be thinking that Thanos is the worst father in the galaxy, or at least in the MCU, but today, we’re going to talk about another horrible father who seems to get a pass for whatever reason. Sure, there are lots of villains in the MCU, but we think one of them is none other than Odin, the Allfather himself. He not only banished his own child, Hela, but he removed any trace of her from history, which seems a tad bit extreme. He raised Thor to be a spoiled brat and basically made it impossible for him and Loki to ever be close with one another.

@@thebalderthor4884 it’s not really his decision to make. not his information to withhold. loki deserves to know where he came from and odin kept that from him, knowing full well that he could be found out at any time (loki and the others sneaking onto jotunheim and loki’s skin turning blue at a jotun’s touch. had he been exposed there there’s no telling what thor or thor’s friends would have done. he would have been in danger and it would have been odin’s fault.) he wasn’t the worst father, but he definitely wasn’t the best.

Lets not forget that, in the comics, odin killed both his brothers so he could absorb their powers and create the Odinforce, making him one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Thanos wouldn't have attacked if odin was still alive, because he'd lose horribly.

@Ender-swiss You have a serious lack of understanding of who Odin is and what he’s done. He conquered the nine realms and killed monsters and tyrants. Eitri asked why Asgard didn’t protect Nidavellir. He didn’t know Odin was dead. They didn’t colonize any of those realms. They live in Asgard. Did you even see the third Thor film or read Norse mythology? Thor returns to Asgard to find Odin eating grapes while the nine realms are in peril. Thor immediately knew that Loki was impersonating Odin because his father wouldn’t sit around eating grapes while people were in danger from frost giants or trolls. Hela was cast out and locked away because her blood lust extended past killing tyrants and evil creatures. Hitler wanted to conquer, commit genocide, and rule. Odin didn’t rule Vanaheim or Earth, but he did protect them. He even saved the life of his enemies son. He brought him into his home and loved him. I missed the part where Hitler saved a Jewish boys life and raised him as his own. It really blows my mind you can’t see the difference.

lol. Yeah After Ragnarok, I was pretty much like...what a monster he is. I mean he plays off as this benevolent, guardian of the realms. I think Hella sums it up nicely..."Where do you think all this gold came from?". He more or less sent Thor off to die on Earth and sets a standard for him to get his powers back that Odin himself could not meet. He did not even train Thor on how to use his powers until after he died and even then it was dropping a hint not actually training him. OK, I have two issues with Odin: ONE if Frigga was the mother of Thor then who, exactly, was the mother of Hela? TWO: the ol' coot retired to Norway knowing full well that when he died Hela would immediately be released. On Earth. Think about that. He fully intended for her to be stranded on the planet with no way off. It was only Loki's inopportune call-out to Heimdall that opened the Bifrost and allowed her to escape. Odin was p.l.a.n.n.i.n.g. to strand Hela on Earth knowing full well that she would have laid waste to the place. Not nice, dude. Not nice at all.

@@nicoblac9368 Look, many of the shitty things that happens in MCU is basically Odin's fault. The whole Loki becoming a villain could have been avoided only if Odin told him the truth about his origins early in his life. But he didn't & Loki grew up with inferiority complex, his sense of identity striped away when he accidentally found it out himself. There's the whole other thing with Hela too. Not saying he never loved any of them but only love is not enough. Odin's reluctance to face his mistakes caused so much pain in his children lives.

JarinJonas None of it is Odin’s fault. Loki is a adult and his actions are of his own. Countless times his father, mother, brother and those of his world showed and told him that they loved him. Instead of accepted their love, accepting that people make mistakes, and accept that what he was born too isn’t who he is, and go out and I better of himself, he turned to hatred. Let's take a moment to point out that Odin watched his son, Loki, attempt to kill himself and then the next time he saw that child he told him that he wished Loki was dead too and told him he amounted to nothing. I don't care what Loki did, in no world do you take someone you mentally abused into such a deep depression that they attempt to take their own life in front of you and tell them that they amount to nothing and you wish they were dead too. It was very likely, that Loki would have been the hero in this story. But fate is a cunning trickster. If Thor never learned his lesson and Loki didnt even need to interfere on earth, he would have realized that he make his own stand to break free from Odin's game. In tricking Laufrey he ended a war with Jotunheim before it even began and he would have the time prove himself as a worthy ruler. Then we would have another conflict ahead while Thors friends wanna have him back Odin will probably expose Loki's true nature. Even if Asgard don't want his head because his benevolent rule and the fact, that Odin raised him as his foster child they would still shun him. Loki intentions will be leaving Asgard but the Bifröst would most likely be closed to him due Odin's orders and he takes another path to leave Asgard in secret. Im sure he confronts Thor on earth and tell him about his true nature and Odins cruelty. Here I'm not sure about Jerk-Thor's reaction: Attacking/Shunning Loki or still seeing him as family.

You know why odin had been a difficult and bad father to thor, loki, and hela are because he lacks the responsibilities of being a one, you're right he should had taken care of his children while their small, but odin wanted a safe environment for the sakes of his own children safety, odin tried conquering realm to realm, and planets to planets to prove himself worthy of being a king, protector and a father, he wanted a safe universe and thats why odin didnt have time to be a great father to thor, loki and hela and thats why they grown a mess and rebelling to the throne, and betraying their own father, odin has gone enough, in my opinion odin isnt a bad father but a great one, he just wanted what's best for his children, kingdom and their safety, because thats what great fathers do.
