With the new Supply system, paratroopers might have a use besides being surprise tourists for capitulations. Does dropping paratroopers onto a railway cut the supply connection? I hope they do some balance adjustments with the supply system. I have played a few games and watched some short playthrough videos such as yours and everything has a very common theme. Everyone's construction queue is just building or repairing railroads and sometimes building supply depots and that is it. I had hardly any chance to build factories except for prewar. Only to realize not building up the supply lines for major fronts was a mistake. The idea of reducing the amount of factories isn't a bad one, as it should result in less over all units in the game. However, if the ONLY thing you can build is supply related construction it is going to cause games to be extremely long. This is also going to cause playthroughs starting as minor nations extremely difficult as you pretty much can't build factories during war, unless you are purely on the defensive. Previously, the best way to play minors was to conquer other small nations around you to build up your industry quickly, but if you can't conquer another nation in a timely manner due to supply issues, it makes that method near impossible. The only way you can reliably push is to constantly build up railways as you push, so if your industry is crap, building those railways is going to take forever. It really makes me wonder how much this new supply system was tested. Many nations have insanely reworked focus trees and dozens of new events, some of which were seen in this video. Kind of makes it seems like most of their time went into development and very little was spent actually testing. This is just speculation of course, but the supply system just seems so significantly out of balance to me that I can't think of another reason.
@FLUX.22263 жыл бұрын
Sadly, a lot of time is indeep spent on the focus trees instead of game mechanics. I'm pretty sure one of the NSB dev diaries mentioned that these trees take a lot of work to get right. Most players want huge and powerful trees with fancy RPG mechanics and believable alt-history, so that's what Pdx focuses on. I feel like they improved the DLC quality with NSB, but it's still not great. And my monkey brain preordered it anyway because "preorder bonus neuron activation". Eh.
@ArkliteDC3 жыл бұрын
@@FLUX.2226 I havent played all the focus trees, but I did enjoy Estonia's. I think they have a good concept here, it just needs some balancing. This has the potential to be my favorite DLC for HoI4 of they can fix it.
@FLUX.22263 жыл бұрын
@@ArkliteDC It's probably one of the best DLCs, yes. And personally I think the minor nation trees that come with main DLCs are most of the time quite nice (though I haven't played as the Baltics yet) - partially because they are more compact. But Stalin's paranoia game is something that I don't like, it puts too much focus on playing another game within HoI4, much like all of the BftB trees. I've been playing HoI4 since since WtT, so I'm used to focus trees being more straightforward and easier to understand, not having a unique mechanic for each country, and being less powerful overall.

I played an India game last night, this new supply system is hell for less industrialized countries and colonies ! Even then, I managed to sweep the floor with the Italians and Germans in Africa. Even had an Indian tank commander pull off operation compass with light tanks, did not even know of army spirits and did not bother with tank designer (my industry is too weak to deal with this :D ) . Libya came under a British puppet government who had shit supply and I coudln't do anything about it so my tanks became useless and Libya became a see saw battle like RL :(

Don't forget that you can motorize your supply hubs so that some of the frontline logistics issues get mitigated somewhat. By default, all supply hubs use horseback. It can save you a headache and a bajillion queues of railways.

How to fix supply for nearly all fronts - Double shift click supply nodes, what is does is increase the supply range of the nodes by assigning more trucks (Literally only 50, barely a difference). This works until you get to the Soviets, it’s a pretty straightforward push for each supply node until you get past Moscow in which good luck because there’s FUCKING NOTHING. Good dlc!!

For against AI, if you want to be a Mr. Moneybags, build medium tanks with Howitzers and go nuts with the armor and engine until the AI can't pierce it and it goes over 9 kmh. A 40-width division that's half these and half Mech/Motor is over 500 Soft Attack and over 1000 breakthrough. They have almost no Hard Attack, but you can just encircle the AI armor if you need to. Also since they are so insanely expensive, try to keep the reliability high. But these things are nearly unstoppable once you have them. I gave them the hilariously butchered German name "Getroffenpanzer"

5:15 - 5:35 Cast armour is way easier to build that riveted armour in reality, because it's easier to make a possibly reusable cast inner mold, outer cast mold. Then make the sand or clay inner and outer casts, Wait for them to harden and then remove the possibly reusable inner and outer cast molds. Put the inner and outer molds together it they aren't built into each other already. Pour in the molten steel. Wait for it it cool, before breaking off the inner and outer sand or clay or whatever other cast material is used. Done. That's a lot easier then making a riveting frame, riveted plates, and praying that the riveted frame holes, line up with the riveted plate holes, with 1930's and 1940's...actually scratch that, just make the rivet holes way bigger then the rivets to make room for error. Still probably way harder to make a new rivet skeleton frame for each tank then to just make an inner and outer cast mold that might be reusable, depending of the design. For the record, I studied both of these manufacturing methods, but didn't do either of them in practice. Also, in real life, the Germans didn't seem to do either during WW2. They welded everything that I have looked up. Yes, they had some interwar stuff that was riveted, but I think these where just a handful or a few dozen things not worth mentioning.

In real life, the diesel in Germany’s tanks froze in the Russian winter. Would have been cool if that was a drawback for Diesel engines.

The Russian tanks (at least the T-34) were diesel while all of the German tanks used petrol. So probably not a good idea.

Nope, they didn't - Germans used gas in every single one of their tanks. Which is curious in itself, considering they were the only force to ever field diesel AIRPLANES, but yet, here we are. Russians, on the other hand, used diesel extensively in tanks.

In reality, Germany mostly only had Diesel engines in captured enemy tanks, petrol is quite resilient against freezing, however USSR used Diesel mostly, add anti-freeze in their fuel, we use it in Norway even today prevent Diesel from freezing.
