My boss from my younger days working at IH truck dealership pounded in my head that you never walk away from nuts and bolts unfinished, that being torqued, wired or pinned make sure it's done before leaving I've taught that to my grandsons with one being a master tech at a GM dealership. I'd definitely be calling the dealership where you got the truck they should stand behind there word. Best of Luck guys and stay safe.👍🇺🇸🙏

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It's quite concerning. All Cummins dealerships nationwide that are accredited for such services should address and rectify the issue without hesitation. It's imperative for the industry to prioritize reputable and skilled service providers over those that don't adhere to the highest standards. I sincerely hope you can seek appropriate redress and have the repairs compensated.

Man I certainly hope, since it was rebuilt at a Cummins shop, there's warranty. You certainly have video proof of faulty labor. Contact your Cummins dealer, ask to speak with the regional representative. Ask for him to come to you, show him everything, including the video and Cummins should pick up the tab. I had an issue with my then 2012 Cummins pumping oil into the DPF system, causing multiple regens, which led to check engine lights. Turned out, Cummins had an issue with valve seats leaking. Had to buy a new head but Cummins did reimburse 90% after talking with the regional representative. Good luck with this. You may also want to remind the Cummins representative about the following you have on KZbin. It may just light a fire under his ass to do the right thing. 😊

Get a mechanic(certified) to inspect the engine and verify you diagnosis, that the rebuild was done improperly. Ask cummins legal dept for a claim form. Then submit your claim to their legal dept and send a letter of compliant to the president of cummins, the dealer, and the rebuilder. Then if cummins will not pay. Take them to small claims court. You will win the cost of rebuilding again or cummins by accept your claim and rebuild the engine again.

With the amount of scoring, on the #3 to 4 throw cheek, I give it less than 1% chance of being saved. Just too much damage, also with the amount of metal that was circulating, pull the motor, out of frame, as the block and oil cooler and any part the motor oil came in contact with has to be thoroughly cleaned, or Martin will be doing another rebuild in 6 months. If the load situation was better, a new engine would be the best option, but with tight money, out of frame rebuild or reman, is in the cards. It hurts soo much. Best wishes from the far North.

You should've been a journeyman diesel mechanic and instructor!!!😁😁 It sucks hard, but at least you know what the problem is and what needs to be done to fix it. As other posters have mentioned, the dealer (or whoever rebuilt the engine) screwed up by not properly torquing the con rod cap bolts on #3 cylinder - they should be covering all costs pertaining to rebuilding it again. Good luck!!!

I once was in the process of buying a machine shop. They would grind down a crankshaft then reinstall with oversize bearings. (The right way to rebuild the engine). A shortcut(if its only one cylender) maybe just polish. That machine shop also made tools and dies for the wire and cable making industry. EVERY PART THEY MADE had to be polished to remove burs and imperfections. you maybe able to use a polishing compound and a buffer(machine shop supply houses). To fine polish(mirror finish) the jewelry suppliers make very fine polishing cloths and compounds. good luck(I would replace all the bearings on that shaft.) Jewelry suppliers are called findings in nyc.

The bearing is definitely toast, likely taking the crank with it. All due to a incompetent mechanic. Agreed. However, that still does not address the fuel smell in the oil. Did the fuel dilute the oil which exacerbated the loose rod bolt/bad tolerance on the bearing? While you are in there you still need to look at that pump...

Hey Martin and Alice good video, I was wondering if the rod bearing was spinning inside the rod end. And then saw the bolts was loose due to diesel mechanic not double checking his work. Sad you going to need to due a rebuild to your X-15 Cummins engine in your truck. Cause you got all the bearing metal floating in the oil galleries will need cleaned out so doesn't cause issues on the new rebuild. And need to get the crankshaft cut and ground down to next oversize bearing or trade in and replace the crank. Well now got to pull the motor or haul the truck into the shop. Take care and better enjoy some of the Coors light beer in the pickup and think.

Glad Martin found what caused it. At least it’s not driver caused. Do you know who rebuilt the engine. At least you could get something for your trouble and they could watch for further problems and correct them. Glad Martin us so expert in repairing the trucks and know just what is wrong. Hope it all works out for you.

How many miles did you get out of the remanufactured X15? 2-3 months ago? Weeks?
