My 2 cents as a newer pilot: lower the camera angle (it will decrease your speed and you’ll see the ground/horizon better, as well as maintain altitude better), keep moving forward (you can maintain altitude better, see hazards, controls are easier, won’t drift into obstacles). Have fun!!!

When you use auto level (angle) mode to help someone new fly, you should lower the camera angle. He was basically just seeing the sky (assuming the fpv camera has the same tilt as your action camera) because the camera angle was too steep. In order to point the camera down, he would've had to have had his pitch held down all the way forward, which is not something a beginner is gonna do or want to do. He would've done better with less angle. You seem to be getting along just fine. Lots of learning and you're already in velocidrone. Just takes time in the sim. You'll get it!

I think the FPV cam should be tilted up a bit more, so that the quad has a bit more forward momentum, which makes it easier to keep spacial awareness, also the GoPro camera angle should be lowered to match the FPV.

I can tell you two things not to do that really held me back when I first started. Do NOT fly in self stabilized mode ever and don't be afraid to crash. I downloaded Liftoff one night,practiced flying acro and the next day I had my first successful acro flight. After switching to acro and realizing crashing is part of flying,FPV became 100% more fun. Good luck with your journey into FPV Ken!

I think the reason your getting telemetry warnings is because your running a QX7 without the crossfire mod...this can temporarily be resolved without much consequence by doing the following...In the Taranis, long press the Menu button, then press page till you get to the “Hardware” page. On the Hardware page, there will be an option for “Max bauds”. Change the Baudrate from 40000 to 115200. This will slow down the communication between the Taranis and the module, but it’ll fix the issue.

@@malo6748 Yesterday I flew the first time with my drone. I've been practicing on the sim for about 4-5 months and the only thing that was different in real life is that the drone falls much faster because on the sim the gravity is very low so you almost "float" around but other than that it was just like the sim. Just be a little carefull at the beginning. And don't crash cuz u won't be able to push a button to restart!

@@mr.despar905 i agree, quad falls slightly faster, but IMO the quad is easier to handle in real life than a Sim drone. It feels way more locked in. Had my first flight 1 week ago banggood shipped my parts pretty fast so i had them earlier then i expected ;) Safe flying bro !

Ma Lo yeah I mean the speed at which the drone falls depends on which sim you use. And regarding feeling more locked in: The sim is almost too perfect( the way the drone handles). In real life the drone‘s slightly faster so a bit more difficult to fly at first. But once u get the hang of it its fun

I found it quite easy and enjoyable to progress from a cheap Eachine E013 to BetaFPV 65S and 65X to GepRC 3" (RTF) and to Armattan 5" (self built) incrementally. Keenan Lanser There are a number of RTF’s out there. Check Rotor Riot, Race Day Quads, Get FPV, Flite Test and Xhover. But keep in mind you are gonna break it and then have to fix it. You can build one a lot cheaper yourself and then you will know exactly how to repair it. Food for thought.

@DocmurdocFPV
@DocmurdocFPV 4 жыл бұрын
Keenan Lanser You can purchase an inexpensive frame for about 30’ish dollars. A set of motors for about $40, a set of ESC’s for $40, a flight controller for $35’ish, an FPV camera for $25-$35, a vtx for about $20, a control receiver for $20’ish, the remote for between $50 and $200 depending on the type and brand, box goggles from $50-$150 or Fatshark style goggles used from $250 to new as much as $600. You will still need batteries and a charger. 4s 1500mah lipos are around $18-$25 each, a charger to charge them from $40-$150 depending on brand and output amps. You can literally buy all of this off Amazon and EBay. Now all this is assuming a 5” quad as that is the most common and easiest to get everything you need.

Docmurdoc dang, that’s like $250 for a quad. I’ve found a 3inch RTF kit that comes with a remote for $100. (Mantis 85), also, there’s a 5inch with remote for like $200. (Eachine Wizard x220) do you recommend trying to build one for first time FPVers

My first quadcopter, 6 years ago, I would tell people I was "going out to practice crashing." It was a continuous cycle of "it's going to high" followed by "it's coming down to fast" and would eventually just crash it into the ground so it didn't fly away. After about a year of that I started getting the hang of it and got my first GPS camera drone. I got all the crashing out of my system that first year and have never crashed a drone since. I think everyone should be required to learn to fly an FPV quadcopter before they are allowed to buy a camera drone.

Ken, always enjoy your channel, entertaining and informative. I would appreciate it greatly if you could explain the actual dynamics of quadcopter flight. I get the up and down, even the forward and back and the roll but how the heck does a quadcopter yaw?

Your hilarious Ken, lol it's so funny seeing you get excited and addicted. Ye you shoudl always start someone with a whoop as the fear is too high. I mean it's dangerous. Love seeing you learn and get excited and trying to share that joy with others. It's funny ay such an addiction in such a short time and all you wanna do is try share the experience. I really have no time to make vids , so use my time to enjoy building and flying. If you need any help more then happy to help.

PS, flying a whoop, or a sim can help with the basic reflexes. Me myself has spent 3 hours on a sim and then flew a 5 inch. It was slow and stressful, after about 2 hours on the 5 inch i got comfy with a flip

This looks like so much fun! And from a videography point of view, there's so many cool things a fpv drone can do that my Mavic Air can't! I haven't done much fpv research at all, but it looks like a very "custom" thing and that you gotta build your own drone? Maybe you could do a fpv video guide so-to-speak? Like either how you build a good fpv drone, or (if it exists) which manufacturer fpv drones you recommend for a few different prize ranges? :) Keep up the good work, Ken, you're doing great! From Norway - Buh, and bye ;)

As an fpv guy I would say work on that tune you have on that quad. It looked a little shaky. If all else fails take it back to default settings. Looked better than my first couple flights!!

Doing good, Ken. I know the Fail-Safe can kick off at about that distance. So try to keep it a little bit closer to you. You can also set it so that the brothers don't go to zero under your controller setups. Of course, you can do that in betaflight, but you can also do it in most controllers. I've done the same transition that you're doing now where I mostly want to fly the racing Drones. They are so much fun.

Just keep on with the Simulator buddy you're coming to a point with stick time where things will just click and you'll be coordinating turns like a master. Next will be setting up modern tuning and filters to completely eliminate vibrations and wobbles. Once those are gone you'll be AMAZED the control you get.

Well done my friend, the first tries are TERRIFYING. It does come, it is addictive and for me it has been transformative. For me FPV is a way to relax, focus and recenter. How’s that for hippi, but it is true. Thanks for sharing and don’t give up.

Fun to watch. 2 tips. Set your fpv camera angle to 30 degrees. It will slow you down and let you see more horizon. I like to fly low proximity as if you were racing. It gets your stick control developed. Set your arm switch the opposite in beta flight. All the pilots I know want to quickly unarm by pulling the switch towards you. It’s much harder the way you have it.

Hi Ken, Here is a tip for you. If you have a high uptilt on your camera like racers do (45 deg or more), you can make turns like a flying wing, more of a bank and yank style but if you are uptilted 30 deg or less, most of your turning is done with left stick, yaw. You will also find, even at high uptilts that by mixing your yaw and roll axis you will have much smoother turns and less oscillations in your video footage.

FPV IS LIFE!! I'm not the type of pilot that hates camera drones unlike a lot of fpv pilots. I also enjoy shooting video's with a dji drone. But yea I definitely prefer fpv because it gives me such a rush.

You have all you really need...the passion to want to fly. Just keep getting more stick time. I started a while back so I pretty much learned the hard way to fly and build. You have so many great mentors on KZbin these days to help you with anything but getting the stick time is up to you. With today's tech I would probably get a good indoor whoop class quad so I can maximize my practice time and have more obstacles and an altitude limit. Whoop flying in your house also will help your throttle control since you have a limited altitude. A 6S 5" can cause some good damage especially if you keep falling out of the sky. You definitely need to troubleshoot that Rx loss or just go Crossfire like everyone else :) My flying vastly improved when I had obstacles and goals while flying. The little whoops are great for bouncing off things and still flying like a real acro quad. You can buy a ton of batteries for it and if you get the right whoop you shouldn't really need too many quad spare parts. There are so many great whoops for indoor flying out these days. Have fun!
