I have another suggestion for some of the so called waste lumber, like the cutoffs from your spacers. People with lathes don't only just turn bowls, so depending on the thickness of the cutoff, it could be cut down into one foot lengths or a bit longer and sold for pen blanks. Pen blanks are usually 3/4" thick, so a lot of your offcuts would be perfect for something like that.

Old timers used to drive a nail when it would not produce nuts. We had several on both side of a creekrun and my brother drove some nails in the tree. The next year it produced a over 5 bushel of walnuts when several who lived nearby never seen it produce. Tree was over a foot thick and forth feet tall.

Bowl blanks can be thin as 8/4. And as small as 4x4x8/4. Just sell smaller ones in sets. Figure what will fit best in one rate boxes (USPS or FedEx?) then sell by the box. When I cut blanks on my vertical bandsaw, anything over 3/4x3/4x3” is a turnable wood blank. Best sizes for spindle use are whole inches squared by 12” or longer. That sycamore could have been spindle cut (cut for spindle blanks) even with the ring shake. It is just a different sawing pattern than slab cutting, though very similar. Especially since you have the edger handy for rip cutting. I watched a video this week of one of your blanks being turned. The resulting bowl was very nice!

I really wanted to make a rocking chair from Osage Orange, but I am not sure that the grain would be ideal; it seems to shear like the grain will separate if it has little cracks.

Forty years ago in one of my classes at the University of California at Davis we were told that if you drove a galvanized nail into the base of a tree that the tree would get all the zinc nutrient it needed from the galvanized coating for the life of the tree. There's one good reason to drive a nail into a tree but they don't recommend you do it because it wounds the tree allowing disease and pests to enter it.

Any of these slabs available? Need a 20" x 6' piece and 12"x 6' piece. Preferably live edge on one side and cut on other would be fine.

Glad to see you didn't hit a nail or metal after stopping and changing four blades last time

Great video Nathan, something just came to me n I’m not sure it would interest ya, but have you thought about building ya an office in your lumber mill? Nothing big, 8x8 or even 6x8. Some place you can warm up your photo equipment, yourself even and vise versa for summer, keeping equipment cool. Maybe some paperwork for jobs/orders. Small desk to set at, keep extra blades n a few tools you use regularly in/on the mile. Save ya some running. Coffee pot for winter n a little college fridge for water. Just a thought
