Div2 was the best 50 bucks I have spent in a year. I soloed every aspect of the game it let's you all the way to world tier 5. I didnt watch videos on "the best builds" or "must use weapons" I just played and had fun. It's actually a challanging game if you dont break it by using broken skill builds and weapons that are destined for future patching. If you shut off KZbin and just sit down with the game it's a wonderful experience. The map is massive and fun to explore, with alot of gear rewarded from finding hidden faction chests and loot caches. There are a ton of secrets to find and an actual story being told with the collectables. I didnt experience my first thought of boredom playing until I had already logged 5 days of playtime. While I agree with some of the statements made, and yes it's not a 10/10 game, it is however one of the better games released in the last year and totally worth the price tag.

Destiny is not a cheap knock off of borderlands, they are incredibly different, the only way they can really be compared is that they have the same genre and rough time period (future), bit they are way different with different worlds, enemies, weapons, art style, and more, they both have different, unique stories and world building. What you said about Destiny pretty much sums up how I feel about it. It is obsessed with chasing these rewards and not enough with making sure the chase itself is enjoyable. The story is not good and I will argue that til my dying days.If you have to read through entire shorts stories to feel anything for Uldren and Cayde-6 to get any sense of who they are as people while you’re playing through a game’s “story”,then it’s not good.I can’t think of anything besides the raids that I can like without any major caveats attached to it.Too much emphasis on loot not enough on actual experiences you will cherish like Bdobbins said in the video.

That is the problem of gamers like us who grew up with 90s and ealy 00s games, we grew up playing games that pushed all the envelope: technology, gameplay, story, direction, VISION. Games back than were all about emergant gameplay, and new innovative ideas, it was a era of experimentation. every new scenario created with a very specific goal in mind, everything was a mini puzzle. This is why I will always remember Half Life 2, all it'e unique encounters, to this day I remember the terror of the first running zombie that jumped on my face from the window in Ravenholm. Today I barely remember anything about Destiny, or COD or any of those "lifestyle" games. it all blurs together into a mediocre, forgettable mess.

Excellent points again, as always. I played the beta of Division and did find it to be utterly boring. I think you are right, the 'grind' is just a time-wasting device to make you think a game has content. RAGE2: Rage Harder, was like this, with artificial time extensions to the game with bandit camps and opening of hidden crates and boxes everywhere. The 'game' could be completed in around 10 hours if you speed-run the content, versus something like Half-Life 2, which had 13 distinct chapters to it, with new mechanics, NPC;s, co-op AI, vehicles sections, areal threats, underground threats, robots, monsters, malevolent computers, flying miniature robots and tonnes more. Basically, everything you said about gameplay variety. There is a crevasse opening beneath the games industry, on one side is story-driven games with tonnes of variety and interest, on the other are lootboxes containing logic derived from collectable baseballs cards if you buy the bubble-gum...or cigarettes. We, down below in the middle just try to get on with our gaming lives as best as possible, utterly baffled by the finger pointing above us.

I've always felt that the division could have been the new genre defining game. Only they went for the glowy loot, point out where to go so there's no exploration, fortnite dances, lazy boss design, simplistic tactics, pander to the lowest common denominator route. The beta of the first division was some of the most fun I had had in a game. The dark zone was ominous and creepy, dangerous feeling, and intense when I wanted to extract good gear. I still remember the best outplay vs 3 people I had back then. Wish they would remake a 3rd, if there is a 3rd, to be less cut and paste, follow the gps, and more explore and try to survive route. You're right about the replayability. There's a reason why I don't play Destiny or The Division, despite those 2 being the games I wish were the best games ever made. They just aren't, and I got bored with them years ago.

2:36 "The problem with games journalism is you need degrees to break into the gig, and under the present academic system, the only people getting them are [ ] people who have very little in common with real gamers." This could be a video in and of itself. Games journalism (and game production) has been increasingly saturated with people who do not play games, or play them VERY poorly. (Remember that Cuphead video where the guy couldn't even figure out how to beat the tutorial?) How did we get here, and how do we correct it?

I respect your opinion, and the video was well written, but i love the Division 2 as it is already, of course I look forward to future updates and extra content, but the grind for creating the ultimate build is one im still very much enjoying.

I'm glad you brought up gears of war as an example because to this day I can still replay all 3 games and love them due to the variety of the gameplay and the experiences I had with them in the past. Getting that gun I've been wanting in division 2 is cool and all, but the excitement wears off pretty fast when compared to what I could be EXPERIENCING in a mission or battle...
