That is already big one, one ultra far right party comes in power and a lot bigger chance nukes will get used. The loan is on top of the £12.8 billion ( key word loan ) And even better how loans work in war times. British produce military in UK, creating jobs and taxes, actually most of the money even dont leave UK. Its like double pay day for UK, will get loan back and created jobs and taxes, same in USA. Giving away equipment, have to make new, so UK replace with better newer equipment in process again creating jobs/taxes. A lot of times old military are sold also, before scraping, its cost a lot to scrap it, but again win - win situation get money out from selling it to Ukraine or just donating. Ukraine have Untapped gas, oil reserves also, behind the doors deals, more independence from Russian energy sector. Its all business, people imagine - we are helping.

A very big thank you for this statement bro! The reality is that the UK, and the West largely, are slipping back to the old ways and systems and Capitalism is really maturing and showing its real face. But probably all economic and political systems, when not properly checked and regulated, always want to strengthen and widen the class divide, be predatory and turn the majority to servants. But I see that these majority might end lower than servants. But the majority ("working class") have always been some kind of servants class really. But over the last century it came with better financial and material incentives, until its not.

Before joining the EU the UK was considered the 'poor man' of Europe. Fundamentally there's huge division of wealth between land and home owners and the rest of the population. With a older population, governments see them as the major voting demographic and don't care enough about the young educated work force. I saw this happen in Portugal.. and all the best workers left to work abroad.

The reality is that the UK, and the West largely, are slipping back to the old ways and systems and Capitalism is really maturing and showing its real face. But probably all economic and political systems, when not properly checked and regulated, always want to strengthen the class divide and turn the majority to servants. But I see that these majority might end lower than servants. But the majority ("working class") have always been some kind of "servants class" really. But over the last century it came with better financial and material incentives, until its not. It should have happened much earlier if not for neocolonialism, but now every nation seem to be strengthening industrializing, a large single continent level country (China) is out competing and has the resources of a real mega Capitalist country, and even some more, natural resources are becoming more expensive, the Western populations are really aging fast. Perhaps the UK and the rest should stop seeing themselves as some kind of "Power" and downsize, reorganize the economic systems and become a little more like Portugal.

Remember that that's not exactly an indicator of a country's position in the world. The UK, as much as I love it (or what it used to be, rather), doesn't really provide anything of value to the rest of the world at this point, so the level its currency sits at is somewhat artificial and propped up.

This is a good assessment and its been true for so long. The rot set-in in the 80's with the over investment in the City of London and the running down of manufacturing and out-sourcing this to China. Rather than retraining the British workers for this new world and the new jobs nothing was done. This led to a shortage of the skilled worker London required. The skilled workers moved to London or were imported from abroad, leaving the post industrial towns behind. These post industrial towns suffered from low skilled low wage jobs, which the once skilled industrial workers (engineering or mining) were ill suited to fill. These jobs would be filled with immigration. No politician explained to the British population or understood this demographic bomb and they only cultivated populist image. It was believed that a young energetic image was more important than anything else to the British populations (Tony Blair, David Cameron). The over reaction to the 2007-2009 banking crisis led to the disenchantment with politicians (British and Europeans) and simplistic right wing snake oil politicians offered solutions, which ultimately led to Brexit and Boris Johnston. God help us. Where Britain once trod, America is destined to follow.

it would be good for the counties/rural townships of Britain to start making trade deals for themselves, to start soliciting the best prices for good produces locally from external sources; heaven knows there's a dearth of high quality wool products (clothing in particular) on the market today, and I bet customers would love to have excellent quality dairy and vegetable products again too

Well, that headline is a bit sensationalist! You can't focus too much on London - not because it's not important, but because the City of London (despite being very small), is the UK'S centre of finance. All our banking and stockmarkets are based there. A large proportion of London has always struggled with high cost of living and poor housing. Yes, London's wealth is declining but places like Manchester (where I'm from) are slowly improving. Over 14 years of the Tories being in power has had a horrendous effect on the economy. They cut spending in the public sector drastically, leading to massive job losses in one of the largest job sectors. It has been a really tough decade or so for us all but we are still far from being a third world country. Really, it's now up to the new government try to turn things around and it would mean spending a lot more money and borrowing more. In a capitalist world economy, borrowing isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as the money is invested wisely. The UK has been in far more debt in the past and used that to build a strong economy after WWII. Even though the Tories cut public spending in the last 14 years, they have accually increased debt, which makes you wonder what they've been spending it all on. I was brought up being told that the mantra of capitalism was "to make money, you have to spend money". The UK needs to invest in better education and developing industry & the job market. We've kind of lost our way a bit in that respect. After all, the less we have to offer the world, the less money we have coming in.

UK debt is 101% USA debt is 121% (owing over $35 trillion they'll never be able to pay. The UK has control over its own bank of England. The USA does not have control over the federal reserve. The UK is Still the financial capital of the globe. All western nations moved heavy industries overseas. Trump wants to bring some back. Don't be defeatist mate that the UK is over. Remember your long history and the wars, struggles and the no surrender spirit your forefathers had. Don't retreat and take control of your future. This video is heavily biased and I'm beginning to become annoyed by the negative mental attitude drip fed into the minds of those who perhaps don't know or remember what the UK is made of. Don't be a beta guy and complain into comments. Shine the greatness once again before Britain and get off your knees and on your feet. Metaphor of course. You've an ancient proud history. You know Labour got in by default and mainstream media spew nonsense about the UK. The Brits that run away are leaving a home for illegal immigrants. No no no. You don't have to worry about health care, dole etc as that safety net if the worst happens in the UK. Indeed it needs improvement but at least you'll have some security. Family around the world and I know everywhere has its troubles. Let me just say that certain countries don't report such failings the same as they think it looks weak. Really if an alcoholic can not find fault within, then it's not the outward admission which is weak but the fear of appearing to acknowledge the very same weakness is a layer of additional weakness the proud must overcome. Remember the blitz and rations, the standing alone in Europe not just in WWII after France fell but when Europe was under napoleon's boot. Did your forefathers run? Nor did mine and like the rising patriots I don't intend to. Positive mental attitude and you know to keep calm and carry on. Be your best. I say because I care. 🇬🇧

Many of the measuring criteria applied in this feature do not apply to the UK as they would to simpler economies in big EU countries nor aspects of assessing the US economy's components. The UK has historically tended to see national debt as being like personal debt but if, say, the USA did that there would be mass suicides 🙂but the US federal economy and the whole finance sector there runs on gigantic national debt. It encourages debt in countries into which it "projects" then draws profits from them to feed the MIC. Until recently Germany did the same and it just so happens to run the ECB but its actual energy crisis will end this. The UK (with partner Norway at sea) has an energy surplus and the author confuses domestic power prices with an energy shortage. The raising of power prices and some liquid fuels in a single year was very bad timing by the Sunak government and the Starmer government with Ms Reeves at the Exchequer worsened the lot of ordinary people by robbing pensioners, capping wage rises, continuing to support the Kiev regime and doing nothing about illegal immigration. They squandered the advantages of being free from the failing EU's clutches by failing to increase fees for portage and ancillary services to the EUs exports to match undue EU charges on exports from Britain. It is only a matter of a short time before Starmer, Reeves and Lammy have gone. The author also failed to state that the UK is one of the few quite small countries to be almost self-sufficient in foodstuffs by means of a tradition of mixed farming dating from WW1. I am an Irish citizen and our farmers comment that Starmer will pay for meddling in this rare formula through threatened changes to Inheritance Tax. The furore is not in the headlines at present but remains to be faced. The author also made the stupid error of confusing the UK with the former 'British empire'. "Empire" was never the right word to describe crown "rule" over vast areas of the world because, unlike France, Holland, Portugal, Belgium and Iberia, the UK actually had few 'colonies' and had mandates instead which grew from trade from mid C18 through to WW2. Would millions of men have volunteered to fight in two World Wars if they felt oppressed? Some areas felt that (southern Ireland or Irish Free State from 1922) but knowing where best interests lie against especially the Nazis, the UK had to be protected because of self-interest back home. This was surprisingly strong in South Africa and the sub-continent but India and what became Pakistan needed the crown to keep factions apart then towards agreement. I do not expect an American undergraduate mind to grasp the complexities of what was called the 'British Empire' but ask the author to check out what having rights to being a British subject/citizen meant in C20, i.e. freedom of residence. We in Rep of Ireland retain rights without having a UK passport. He should also note that innovations (e.g BAE with Sweden, Turkey, Italy and Japan) might not show on UK spreadsheets but can be traced and should be. In defense, materials technology, SMR nuclear power solutions and electronics (e.g. ARM), the UK is a leader and has no need for the USA or EU except company to company contracts. Many of my compatriots have moved to the UK or switched to UK companies because the USA will pull out of ROI. 56% of our candidates for universities did not even apply to Irish one in 2023 but to the UK and Gulf states. I am far too ancient to move but my time working in the UK for 15 years gave me health and pension rights I use here when ROI lets me down.

I normally really enjoy WATOP videos as a break from the normal 24 hour news feed. However, in this episode, not only is nuance completely skipped over or left out, some raw facts are just wrong. 1) Covid-19 didn't hit anyone financially until 2020 (Jan 2020 is when China started spraying the streets with tanker trucks, Feb is when they started welding apartment doors shut) 2) Brexit was about the control of the EU over the sovereign nation of the UK. Consequences be damned, they were not going to be ruled by an unelected (by UK citizens) foreign body. The USA would have done the same. 3) Servicing the debt: Where do you think the "regular" money to service the debt has gone? Just like in many countries in the West, it has gone to house & care for Illegal Immigrants (those who would choose to break the laws of the country they are entering, supposedly to be "part of that country"). From housing, to education, to medical needs; every aspect of immigrant (legal & illegal) needs are met with UK tax payer funds. (not to mention funding wars around the world, but this certainly isn't a problem UK is alone in...) 4) The energy crisis: This lands 100% on the shoulders of the USA's President: Biden. He campaigned on going to war with the Oil Industry. On day 1, he reversed everything that Trump had in place (the things that allowed the USA to become the #1 energy exporter in the world for the first time in history). He killed the keystone Pipeline that would have reduced greenhouse emissions by piping oil instead of trucking it. He then allowed Russia to finish 2 pipelines & market (pseudo-sexually-assault European consumers when they were in dire need, not only raising the price to heat & maintain a home, but spiking the prices of any good that needed to be shipped/trucked; and then goods producers doing the same to all consumers the world over by keeping the prices of goods high, even after fuel prices reduced again (same old story)) their petroleum products to Europe. Then you had the European countries shutdown their nuclear plants. All of this leading up to the Ukraine fiasco. But, sure, go ahead & say that this was a British problem that started in 2022... 5) Housing: So much nuance ignored...Illegal (irregular) migrants have skyrocketed in the UK since 2020 (especially in 2024), but the worst offenders (and most unknown) are visa overstayers (who the UK conveniently stopped counting in 2020). Then you have specific locations (preferences of where illegal immigrants decide to "make house"). You drop 1M new folks into a population of 20M; where will they live, work, purchase goods, send kids to school, get medical treatment, etc.? Property owners REJOICE! The asking price just quadrupled for a home/apartment rental. UK youth will not stand a chance at the dream of owning a home in such situations, so they live with their parents, do communal living with 7-10 others in the same predicament as their own, or they "get the heck out of Dodge" if they can afford to (very few can afford this). The UK government often decides where legal immigrants go, so you have a tiny nest of them that then expands as more legal immigrants come. However, the UK government doesn't take into account the illegal immigrants also go to this location (they know the language, customs, etc.). This is what the USA will face shortly unless its borders can be closed completely (to illegal immigration) & those who continue to break USA laws (after breaking immigration laws) are deported back to their home country (or the first country they should have sought asylum from (the closest to their home country).

Sky high house prices cuased by 25!years of the government increasint the population by 10million while no extra house were built. 1 in 6 people were not here , 25 years ago and mass immigration has caused untold damage. Many dont see the point in workig hard since you can no longer buy a house. People have had less children since couples often both have tk work to survive, , and all the time the elite have allowed ever increasing numbers of foreign labourr into the market (who generally dont pester for pay rises).
