Well, if this were a regular witness that would be acceptable. But as he was a judge in the district where the investigation was being performed, and the investigation was ongoing, *it was his responsibility* to make damn sure he did not discuss the investigation with the suspect's lawyers. So being convenient doesn't cut it here, in most countries his reluctance to answer would have been ample ground to reject him as candidate for the supreme court. Any righteous person would have unequivocally stated that he discussed the case with no-one except with other judges or the investigators, except for information that was already in the public domain. That he didn't tells me that in fact he did inform Dump's lawyers on what Mueller was doing. Which is a gross breach of confidence.

She was asking if he had spoken to anyone at a law firm, and he did not know the name of everyone who worked there. Many of these law firms have dozens of lawyers working there. Lawyers work there for a short period of time and then go somewhere else for a period of time. He interacts with people in the court all the time and doesn’t necessarily know where everybody works. There are hundreds of law firms in Washington area.
