Sometimes bell on 5 and 7 and other times I noticed bell on 5,7 & 8. Grooves are fantastic!

Have a listen to "I Hung My Head" on the "Mercury Falling" album. That's in 9/8. However, it's not a 3x3 9/8, but a 5+4 feel. Basically splitting a 4/4 bar down the middle and sticking an extra quaver in the middle. The net result is a similar thing with 4/4 crotchet hits on the hihat that transitions from on the beat to off beat half way through the bar, rather than at the end of it.

Ah I just listened- I really like when 9 is done this way!! And then I enjoy sneaking those 3 groupings inside here and there myself.

Really love this breakdown, Dimitri, and well cut video too, no flab! And for this lifelong Sting fan, yes please - 7 days, or any other Sting or Police song!! Finally, such a great surprise that you breakdown the bass too (bassplayer here...of course). Superb!!

Ah I’m really glad you enjoyed the video Steve!!! Ok I guess I can take a stab at 7 Days but I know it’s been covered lots- what can I contribute that’s new?

@@DimitriFantini I consume hours of YT a day and subscirbe to all that interest me, and a breakdown of 7 days hasn't popped up yet for me! You should do it a) because I like the way you explain things, and b) to add to your content out there and grow your channel, especially if you believe your approach is better than others!

imho the shaker on the song was backing track. you can hear it in every song on that tour. there are several reasons for it. firstly you play exact tempo of the song in concert and there is a steady pulse for audience which is very important for Sting bc Vinnie always answered when he was asked quarter accents over odd time songs.I think Sting is a little obsessed with the subject. lastly it is funny shaker keeps going when they shift straight to shuffle on songs like love is stronger than justice.:) Great video and lesson Dimitri!! Keep up!!

very similar to the 'over the barline' ostinato on the hi-hats in Seven Days... oh man, this is so original, and so good-tasted

Thanks! Yes it’s been covered- and though I’ve only skimmed that coverage, I can think of a few details that are probably overlooked by most. I’ll definitely put it on the list!

Hey man, on your Insta reels such as the delayed immigrant song, what are your cymbals? I can pick out the dry ride, is it maybe signature hats and traditionals crash? Can't figure out the crash on the other side of the dry ride at all 😅

Good eye! I’m probably using: Signature 14” Dark Crisp Hats Traditionals Crashes 18” and 20” PSTX 18” Swiss Thin Crash Dark Energy 21” Dark Dry Ride

Why you don't play the entire part of the song first? You start analyzing before people even had a chance to listen to what you are saying you're analyzing.

I’d prefer not to get copyright strikes and you can go listen to the song in full and come back for my breakdown 👊
