The Japan women's national volleyball team (Hinotori Nippon, 火の鳥NIPPON), or All-Japan women's volleyball team, is currently ranked 6th[4] in the world by FIVB. The current head coach is Kumi Nakada.
One of their greatest successes was at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, when they defeated the heavily favored Soviet Union on the way to the gold medal. Japan was qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics by winning the Women's Olympic Qualifier that was held from 8 May to 16 May in Tokyo, Japan. In Athens, Greece the team took fifth place in the overall-rankings.
Finally after almost three decades of medal drought in the Olympics, Japan took home the Bronze medal by defeating South Korea in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

@@jutanremen5316 they do. Ishii, Kurogo for example are consistent scorers. Ishii is the second top scorer during VNL (overall) and she's consistently one of the top scorers for Japan in any tournament. They just need to be taller.

Kobata's instinctual movements are something to behold. She is constantly moving when the ball is in motion. Her awareness of the players around her allow her to always be in the perfect position for a dig or receive but never in the way of any of her teammates. That's only something thousands of hours of practice will get you.

to be honest some teams like Italy and China have pretty good floor defense, they are just more famous for offense. those top teams have very good blocks on top of digs, which builds up a more complete and effective defense line as compared to Japan

Very controvertial where basically the ref was biased and extremely unfair to Thailand and in the end they lost and didn't make it to the olympics and Japan qualified. It's honestly one of the most disgraceful matches in volleyball
