Mudlarking With Kit & Caboodlers

Күн бұрын

This week we returned to Mudlark along the Thames foreshore. We have not visited for over 9 months but this week we go back to the glorious mud of the Thames! It did not disappoint as we both found something unexpected and amazing! Come with us as we wander the banks of the foreshore looking for treasure and crafting materials and at the end I (Fleur) craft with some of the very things we found :)

I agree with others that the layered glass Seems to be old mica . Perhaps it was a Very early craftman's attempt to create glass type containers or windows with Mica bits connected like stained glass windows . Also seems to me that the Sepia like shades of the glass layers might be caused by deliberate fire craftworking or by there having been an accidental fire damage to the piece . Just so it is quite beautiful and unique . It would make a lovely pin or pendant piece . Thanks for sharing this interesting Mudlark , Ladies . Anne Minnick , Massachusetts , USA . Carpe Diem !

Amazing finds. The tiny thing you said looked electrical is a hypodermic needle. I find a lot of those in my local 1930-1940s dump, here in Canada. The mystery item like a micro Fanta bottle might be a bit of tropical coral, common in ship's ballast. The pipes appear to be 1700s and 1600s.

Oh good! Another video. No early night for me… I love the pin finds too. I wonder who used them to pin their clothes, what their lives were like, how their pins ended up in the Thames… they got blunt? Fell out? The millefiore bead is gorgeous. I have a whole string that my Great Uncle brought my Grandmother back from his travels in Europe after WW1. They are mostly dark blue glass with red and yellow. I treasure them. The farthing - you wonder how folk stored them. You could easily lose that. And they obviously did.

You girls are so great! This is the second time I watched this video and I am just as excited for you about the bead and the coin as I was the first time. I read, crochet, flower garden a bit, feed my wild birds as well as try to keep house, laundry and meals up. BUT I look so forward to watching your videos as well as Northern Mudlarkers videos. It just isn't a really good week without my Mudlarkers! Stay safe! Covid is gearing back up! ❤❤

Such a wonderful hammered coin, Fleur. In such great condition, too. The excitement of finding one. Remarkable bead, Kate. The design and color are beautiful the Thousand Flower bead gorgeous despite the awful history it carries. So agreed that we must remember. I must edit and add that your tea light is so pretty.

Wow, what wonderful finds!! Congrats to both of you. You mentioned the ruckus you caused on the foreshore when you found your coin. Imagine the din from all 10,000 of your subscribers as we squealed along with you. I had to laugh thinking about 10,000 people trying to huddle around to see what you found. It's a good thing it's virtual! The candle holder is beautiful Fleur. :-D

Great work as usual ladies. Mudlarking the Thames is in top five on my bucket list. Only time I crossed the Atlantic I remember walking in London at low tide and SO wishing I could just hop down there and have a look around but time would not allow. Next time for sure. Thanks for another great video.

@@MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers we just don’t have the post-stone age history in North America like Europe has. The natives that were here before the Europeans also have a rich history but there aren’t nearly as many tangible links to them .. a few pottery shards and ruins , pictographs and petroglyphs and stone tools but nothing like the old architecture and artifacts and Roman stuff like you have. Not as much either. Take care.

Wonderful objects but even better is the relationship between you two. Its obvious you're much more than mother and daughter but also best friends who.have discovered a common hobby you both enjoy. Cherish that above anything you find.
