This is profound advice! You are the only one on the internet that mentions this tip. I could never figure how to keep my front foot up and commit to flip tricks. After 5 minutes of trying kickflips/varial flips/ heel flips yesterday. I’m finally unlocking/commiting them. Thank you!!!!

Great advice!! It helps also to stay as close to ollie form as possible - with a little flick at the top.

That’s what’s working best for me, I pretend it’s an Ollie but my Ankle extends and my foot flicks. I’m so close to landing but haven’t yet.

Excellent video, weight distribution is overlooked. My kickflips have gone worse, it takes me about 30mins to an hour to get a moving kickflip each session. I will try this next sesh. Cheers bud for this video.

I have this horrible muscle memory of catching with my front foot. I've been working on my weight distribution a lot lately but not so much towards the back-as I'm trying to get off it more. However, I think that your advice will help me to keep that rotation under my back foot and hopefully more lands. Appreciate the insight, my man!

@@OwensSkateStory Most rocket kick flips probably come from flicking a little bit too much off the side of the nose and more importantly a little bit late in terms of timing. As with an ollie, the way to flatten anything out is to slide your front foot up the board anyway. Anyhow, just wanted to comment that shifting the weight also _massively_ helped me with staying connected with the board better to get any kind of flick going properly. Haven't landed a kickflip yet, but I saw someone claim weight should be mostly on the front foot, which results in me not getting the front foot over the board easily, even when flicking up (or straight forward). I can see why people think you have to lean forward a little to, but this probably shouldn't be the starting position at all. In my ollies I go from weight on the popping foot, sliding front foot, weight shifting towards the front foot and landing it with weight either on mostly the front foot or on both feet.

@@OwensSkateStory Thanks! Nope, I haven't got it yet. But I did get close to both varial heel flip (landed it once, tail heavy) and kickflip body varial and heel flip body varial. Those last two I wasn't really trying the body varial, but I have to force my back foot to jump over the board and that seems to at least help with that. I can get a pretty consistent half heel flip body varial landing upside down. So I need to either change foot positions slightly or flick faster to land those. Same thing for the kickflip body varial. Anyway, another thing is my time to learn skateboarding is somewhat limited, but I also have a slight struggle committing to a landing. This definitely slows my progress down. It actually took a LOT of time before I landed my first moving pop shove its. And only landed my first moving frontside pop shove (at decent speed I mean) it a few days ago. I have also worked on my ollies a lot, which really seems to help with the whole confidence thing.
@PHeMoX4 жыл бұрын
@@OwensSkateStory Thank you! Yeah, I feel I sometimes still don't understand the exact movements my legs have to do after the pop and flick. I _definitely_ think varial kickflips are easier for me than the regular kickflip. I have landed a few varial kickflips, but would not say I 'got' that trick now.

Okay so I listened to your advice on distributing the weight to the back foot. It works. I didn't land it yet but I am landing on the belly with both feet, at this point it's the flick. Combining both the weight distribution and keeping my head directly above the middle of the board with my shoulders locked in the nose and tail position. I just gotta get my flick/kick straight off the board so the board stops landing at an angle.

I've burned threw shoes and years wtf I always lose balance mid pop and my front foot overgrips the flat part of the board mid air and it flings it forward spinning the board in a impossible motion. Or if I finally get the spin fast enough to land one footed, I'll do it again and try to land with both feet it won't flip full rotation and land wheels up me everytime and I almost break my ankles land on the side or the trucks

Love the tutorial, but I have two problems here: 1) you said to never learn tricks stationary. I actually learned heelflips (which for me are waaay easier than kickflips) using skate trainers. And all the other tricks i know. 2) about leaning back, i actually think the key is to have your shoulders same direction as your board and jump a bit back. Then what happen is you distributing your weight to the back natural way. I dunno. I will try out your video tutorial tomorrow, if i land the moving kickflip (i can land stationary no problem) you will gain another subscriber xD many thanks for your video, take care. Tom from Staines, UK.

@Vin Lop Excellent if that works for sure. I'm thinking about getting some pads too. But I wouldn't say it is a good habit to fall on your knees and take any kind of impact that way. It's better to transfer the impact from arms to butt and slide or roll away. Don't take full impacts with the arms either, or you will break wrists or arms.

You spent 8 minutes to simply say lean with more of your weight on your backfoot. You could probably make a tighter video if you don't repeat yourself and keep your explanations more concise. You mentioned that you can't kickflip stationary but if you're giving a tutorial on how to kickflip, you really should be able to. Otherwise you're a student just like the rest of us who are also trying to improve at kickflips. Which is fine, but your manner in this video seems so didactic when in reality you're just sharing a thought you had about why people might struggle with kickflips. You also don't explain why doing stationary kickflips are a bad idea. You just say it's bad because it's harder. You make a good point that weight distribution is important when landing kickflips, but to make this point you say that it matters less for shuvit tricks. I don't think that's true. The way you distribute your weight is important for literally every skate trick, not just flip tricks. You try to land kickflips in this video by following your own tips and then fail. It's likely that there are different mistakes that you neglected to mention that's stopping you and other people from learning how to kickflip. Not just weight distribution but also foot placement, direction of flick, angle of shoulders, timing, confidence or lack there of. You don't mention any of these. Still giving the video a thumbs up though because I respect the time and effort you put into making this. Hope you make more of these. That was a clean af double flip!
