Unfortunately sometimes cars break and today the STI is officially down...
After finally getting the RWD STI dyno tuned, we decided to give the car a little shakedown and took it out for some light drifting... needless to say this was a TERRIBLE idea because the car CAUGHT ON FIRE!

Check the valve cover gaskets and half moon seals. They always go bad on these ej's especially on the drivers side because of all the heat on that side from the manifold. Was probably dripping right down on your manifold like they all do. Not enough to drop the oil quickly enough, but enough to start a fire with that glowing red exhaust.

Maybe get those headers coated in the future. Swaintech or maybe just ceramic coated should help with the insane amount of heat headers will put out. You can absolutely catch things on fire due to just the radiant heat coming off a set of uncoated/non heat shielded headers.

I say rebuild the STI motor, put it back to AWD and dirt drift it. That car was meant for rally racing, not doing donuts on pavement.

They way to fix this is to heat your headers. Whether you take long nights racing or even drifiting. Since your rwd you’ll probably shred front axles if you kept them in and you’ll get that grease and other liquids catching the header on fire

Nooooooooo! Maybe lost an oil line? After you get it cleaned up, carry a regular extinguisher AND a halotron type. If the halotron doesn’t work for some reason, go to the standard. Less cleanup with halotron. Just kind of expensive.

I'm not sure if you saw the comments on the video before but we had mentioned getting killer b oil setup to prevent issues with drifting in a Subaru. I'm not sure if you did that or not. This sucks man, sorry for that happening!

You prevented the motor to not blow but all of a sudden fire🔥. I think u should stop building it. If you'll build and not diagnose the cranking issue or any other problem STI could potentially sell at a low price. Sad to see that happened. 😩😥😭

Beat red manifold means low ignition timing. Give it 2 degrees of timing everywhere and add a little fuel. I sell tunes for rx8 and help people with megasquirt tunes.

yes i did, in short it was the oem plastic avcs heat shield paired up with aftermarket headers. i will have a vid out soon explaining what exactly happened and how to avoid this! ive just been waiting for the new part to come in

i agree, if anyone had noticed that the headers were glowing red we instantly would have stopped but the thing was no one had noticed and imo we werent really at it for too long. Ive definitely pushed my old brz was harder and never had an issue like this but i guess the brz’s cooling system must be superior
