SUBARU WRX/STI REAR WHEEL DRIVE CONVERSION

Its been a long time coming but we finally converted my Subaru WRX STI to RWD!! Surprisingly it was a lot easier then I would've thought and I cant wait to get tuned so I can go slide this thing already!

We removed the center diff from the transmission and replaced it with a rwd conversion spool, there are a bunch of different companies that make these spools so it shouldn't be too hard to find. I've put a few miles of the rwd and so far she's held up but we definitely have to break it in and out it to the test.

DCCD doesn’t actually affect the tq split, it allows you to adjust how much diff lock you have, to some it can make the car feel “more rear bias” but it doesn’t ever change the percentage front to rear. Looks like the car is coming along nicely 🔥

Throw 2 more gaskets in that mid pipe ti fill up that gap. Or have your flanges rewelded but double gaskets will fix your issue on the cheap.

Hey ive been asking arnd i have a 07 sti it is rwd swaped and has hub in the trans and in hub for axle but the pronlem im haveing is im getting a p0502 code which i assume is because the wheel speed is diffrent from wut the trans is reading but would you have any idea of how to fix this

Interesting. In a good way. What are the downsides besides the obvious of not being AWD anymore. Do any lights come on on the dash board? Does it affect stability control, abs etc. I think that would be my only concern.

Abs and stability control run on sensors on the brakes.. removing axles and putting a spool in wouldn't affect it at all. Not being AWD is not a downside either.. RWD has it benefits and AWD has it's benefits.. if you want to be able to drift it then AWD is a major negative though. Dash lights can easily be cancelled out with a scan tool

@@AiDOS__ makes total sense. Not many people have done this on the 2015 + wrx so not much solid info out there. Supposedly it was challenging to do on the va chassis because of torque vectoring. Maybe I'll just have to try it lol but I also read the wrx rear diff isn't as strong so might end up smoking that with all the power going to the rear wheels.

The spool doesn't make it rear wheel drive.. the spool just forces power to go to either shaft so that when you pull out the front drive shafts you don't just end up with no drive to any wheels (or minimal drive). Like a spool in any diff, it just turns it into a solid axle instead of a differential

Subarus awd is definitely a great sell for the car but so is its low center of gravity and handling. The suspension setup is nearly identical to the brz which is rwd and that was one of the best handling cars ive ever driven so i can’t imagine this car being any less fun hahaha. It may not be able to rally or launch off a dig as it once could but tbh i wasnt going really do any of that loll
