This underwater footage gives me a better understanding of what's going on in the surf. When nothing is biting I imagine that there is no fish but actually fish may be all around the bait. I started tying my own bottom rigs and use floats on some to increase my odds.

Do you have a video showing the floated bait to see the difference?
@williambenner55503 жыл бұрын
This was gonna be my question. And you could also suspend your bait with a high and low rig for example.

I will do that next

Awesome! I could watch that all day. Like the other guy said. Can we see some video with the float? I can imagine how much work is involved, only to rely on a lucky spot. 👍

Nice! Shows that without floats it sits on the bottom but the floats will keep it up and in the "strike zone"

Is he using beads as floats?

Awesome video….any updates on releases for fish gum, the local shops in Panama City say they can’t get it right now?

Sea Breeze bait and tackle on the west end has plenty. Just got some myself.

Bay Breeze Bait and Tackle by Breezees on West End of 98 usually has some. If you want to drive to Eastpoint, Fisherman's Choice was loaded the other day. Friday at Noon-ish on fishgum.com is a pretty good time too.

Cool thanks… may have to go for a drive after I call…. Is there one that seems to do better or do you think there’ll all about the same?

I've fished floats and caught. But I have fished floats and done nothing right next to someone fishing just a bead and crushed pompano. I took off the floats and started catching. I think the type if beach , drop off, and conditions makes a difference.

Made my floats from a sandal. Not possible to buy here what you use and not pay a lot in shipping. Can you make more vids on DIY hook floats with easier to find parts? I'm currently using cut up flip-flops soaked in a DIY fish attractant but can't figure out how to get it to connect to my hook and have the hook stand up right.

I'm not sure if Tony has made a pomp rig video, but I'll leave the link to the video I learned on. It's Bama Beach Bum's but it's a pretty simple double drop. To get flip flop floats to work, you're going to have to cut the hole in the middle yourself to feed the line thru. Tony has some nice floats on his site. There are also numerous places that sell floats pretty reasonable (Amazon, eBay, several others...also look for walleye floats). kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3SXZZqLYqejmqM

I think you use the toothpick trick. Shove a piece of toothpick between the float hole and the line and position the float close to the hook and lock it down with the toothpick.
@b-will63063 жыл бұрын
@@mattjones1378 toothpick is worth trying and the fact that the wood won't last will help remind that the line probably needs to be replaced. ...... If it lasts that long. I really like making my own rigs. Trying to make a floating piece that I see all the time in YT videos is quit the challenge. But, a piece of a flip-flop soaked in fish attractant does the job
@b-will63063 жыл бұрын
@@user-pc5se6yf5g thanks for that share. That floater is hard to make. But a piece of flip flop does the trick. Just doesn't look pretty. Hahahaha

@@user-pc5se6yf5g I also do the DIY floats with brightly colored sandals :-). Not sure if its better or worse than "real" floats. I've tried both sandal-based floats and the traditional foam floats. One thing I've liked about my DIY ones is that I can customize the size to make them more buoyant to keep larger baits (like larger shrimp) off the bottom. I honestly don't know if the flip flops work better or worse than the traditional floats. I'm going to have to start mixing them up on my rigs and keep track of which floats catch more fish. FWIW, there's probably a better way, but I always drill holes in my flip flop floats with a cordless drill.
