Salzburg is great. Have been there 5 times, I think. Most recently in December. My "cool" moment in Mozarts Geburtshaus was standing in the room where he was born and thinking, "I'm standing in the room where Mozart was born!" Great video, as always. Looking forward to Hallstatt and Vienna!

Another great video, Ben. You looked like you enjoyed this trip. Great to see the elation on your face when you reached the top of that peak. Was stunning for sure. I've been looking at visiting Salzburg and Hallstatt myself. It's good to see it through your eyes and hear your thoughts. Definitely now on my must do list this year along with Krakow if I can. My mum always wanted to visit salzburg because she was a huge fan of the sound of music. Sadly she never got there before she passed away, so it's something I really want to do to honor her memory. Looking forward to next week's video.

Wonderful to see you walking in the beautiful springtime sunshine. You are clearly a traveller/ explorers/ adventurer. No agenda, no plan, no checklist itinerary. My most recent visit to Salzburg was in a winters, icy December 2022. Whereas it is concerning to note that even the upper reaches of the Alps are without snow, good on you for seeking the best views. Austria is a wonderful country. Thank you for your upload. Cheers from Zoltan (in Dubrovnik)

Hi Ben, awesome video of the highlights of your time in Salzburg Austria. The music you had playing during the video was so fitting for all of the structural and scenic beauty. I never visited the country of Austria so glad to see it through your video. Thanks for the tip of the $28.00 pass. Looks like it was a money saver as it included entrance for the $13.00 Mozart Museum and also the the $28.00 Cable Car ride. Looking forward to your other videos of the different places you are visiting in Austria. Thanks for all of your efforts to film, narrate and edit the footage and adding the background music.

Thanks for VERY nice video, Ben! WELL DONE! I'll certanly pass it along to my friends and family who want to visit me here. Just FYI, the glass pyramid/green wooden covers built over the statuary around the Dom (Cathedral) you note at the outset are put in place every fall/winter to protect the statues from the elements. If you'd visited 3-4 weeks later, you would have seen those big, beautiful Baroque statues "in natura". Oh well! 🙂 The shop signs you see in the Getreidegasse ("Grain Lane") are historic guild signs - or wanna-be approximations for modern brands, like McDonalds, which had to break its domineering corporate signage precedents and bow low to Salzburg's laws or take its restaurant someplace other than historic Getreidegasse! LOL New subscriber, signing off with Many Thanks from Salzburg.

Hi, I'm from Salzburg, so I thought I may add a few things: 1. All statues in Salzburg are covered during winter, because snow and cold winds easily damage the old stone 2. The "catacombs" are believed to be early christian "meeting places" and later on the hermitage of the St. Peter monastery. The name "catacombs" probably developed much later in the nineteenth century, hence you didn't find bones 😅 3. The "long forgotten fortress walls" are actually remans of the former city wall. We call this specific wall on the Kapuzinerberg "Bürgerwehr" (vigilante) 4. Actually no, sundays here are far from slow😂 In summer the whole Universitätsplatz (university square; 9:07) would actually be flooded by a queue of people by 10 AM, waiting to get frozen yoghurt at Fabi's (the icecream shop on the right) 5. Getreidegasse ( 10:01 ) does actually mean sth like "grain alley", because it would be the main street for transporting were (as eg grain), it wasnt really the main road however Yeah thats enough being a know-it-all for now. Sry if I'm too tiring already😬 Thx for the video. Living here, you sometimes dont realise the beauty of this city (for example casually walking past the cathedral and looking up to the fortress on the way to buy bread for breakfeast 😂) and videos like these really remind of this. Thanks. Hope to see ya soon back here in Salzburg :) (Also I apologise for any spelling mistakes or so, I try not to use Google for comments like these😬)

Nice vid. I want to go! One thing I saw that I’ve seen in another video, is if you panned down a bit at 11:40 where there’s that green open space, there’s a house in the middle on its own - that’s where the executioner used to live, and nobody wanted to live beside him so they built their houses away from his for good luck 😂 Edit: I googled it and it’s apparently true!
@BenRobson123

@BJones-yw4dd
@BJones-yw4dd 3 ай бұрын
Ohhhhh nooo, sadly, do NOT believe what you read on Google! (GOOGLE?!!? LOL You know better than that!) Nope, that popular FICTIONAL tale about the house on the meadow below the Hohensalzburg Fortress being the "executioner's house" is humbug, apparently still bandied about so often by some of the Fortress guides, it made it into search engines. The tale was being heatedly True-False'd even back in the 1980s when I moved to Salzburg. But it was a story that caught on, simply because that house used to look so isolated (now there's far more greenery & trees around it.) But PLEASE forget "Google"! The fact is, some tour guide's imagination got away from them after thousands of tourists asked day after day: "What's that lone house way down there in that open meadow?" And as any tour guide can attest, tourists want AN answer to their question -- it doesn't have to be a TRUE answer! And the more imaginative the "answer" the better. 😀 Real historians will tell you that house is just an ordinary building that is only a couple hundred years old (while the Fortress's gradual construction dates back to around 1077.) I learned on a few historian-led walking tours over the years that the person who held the official post of executioner was a VIP and not shunned & isolated in a mere cottage. The ACTUAL historic and relatively palatial home of generations of Salzburg's official executioners stands in the SCHANZLGASSE. Its elegant front door can be seen from the corner of Schanzlgasse/Kaigasse as you enter the Old Town from the Kajetanerplatz. As you can imagine, the job of executioner tended to be hard to fill -- it was fairly well paid and gave you a lot of "time off" you might say. But due to your acquired "skills", you were not a popular person around town and so a nice place for you and your family to live was part of the package. I hope that makes more sense than some tour guide's bla-bla. 🙂
