Excellent video! Beautiful plants and very nice narration. This has been one of the many plants on my very long list of plants to get, and I keep coming back to it as one that I should get sooner than later, with it being a CA native and all the other benefits. I'm looking for where to get it now. Thank you so much!

So beautiful. I'm in Ireland and have the tree variety, its about 20 foot high and its in full bloom right now. It just gets better and better each year. I wish I had more land so I could plant lots of them.

Here in the UK, these are not very well known, but you do see them now. They're beautiful. I used a variety suitable for hedging for a small hedge to line my little front garden. Bees love it.

Cool plant! I don't think I've seen any for sale locally (not quite hardy enough for here in 6b). But, it does look like there are several related species that are native in our area (Ceanothus greggii, Ceanothus fendleri). I'll keep an eye out, I really like using evergreen or semi evergreen native plants in the garden. My current favorite evergreen natives are Apache plume (Fallugia paradoxa) and Fernbush (Chamaebatiaria millefolium). We have those sprinkled throughout the yard and as part of a windbreak near some fruit trees.

One of my favorites. I have one about a quarter the size of yours. They attract 🐝 and are a great colour. Also they don't mind drought.

I love Ceanothus, but my garden is very exposed, lots off wind, so it's tricky, we lost a beautiful mature one a couple of years ago and that's made me nervous. But I've bought a new one recently and am glad you made this video, I'm looking forward to seeing my new one grow and flourish👍🙏🏻💖💖

Beautiful! I wonder how well it would do in my Florida garden. We get a lot of rain in the summer.

We live in Portland, Oregon and have three ceanothus in our front (south facing) garden. They are two of one species and one of another (unfortunately we didn't record which). This late winter we see that one is doing really poorly; lots of dead twigs and many leaves dropped. It was grown from a gallon pot and is now enormous, maybe ten feet high and with a central stem as thick as my thigh, so the spot is good for it, but now it's ailing. I'm worried that it won't bounce back this spring. I don't know what to do except wait. We had tried typical west-of-the-Cascades native shrubs here before but they mostly didn't thrive. Our soil is classified as "excessively well-drained" and there is a large spruce tree that takes up much of the moisture in the soil in the summer, so we have replanted with chaparral and Mediterranean species. Mostly it's worked, but now I'm worried about all three of our big ceanothus. Any advice would be appreciated.

I didn't know the ceanothus was a nitrogen fixing plant. I have a few varieties in my garden in east San Diego county, South Coast Blue, Frosty Blue and Joyce Coulter. The Frosty Blue has an amazing deep blue/purple color that is a show stopper.

Nice! How long did it take your beauty to grow from that one gallon pot to it's size in the video? ...Oh, it sounded like you said 5-7 years at the end of your video. OK, thanks! Do you know how well a shrub like this would do in a large ceramic pot?

I grow native species of Ceanothus, some of them will just rot in amended soils, so I just neglect them and they go crazy (in the good way)
