the audi tt mk2 is a great car - i've got the 2012 2.0 tfsi FWD manual. note to future owners: very early on after i bought the car, the spark plugs failed as i was entering the motorway and unfortunately had to be recovered to the garage because recovery didn't have the spark plugs for the TT - they are apparently a bit longer than standard ones and didn't keep them stocked in their vans. so for anyone thinking of buying these cars, it's perhaps worth investing in a set so if worst comes to worst and the plugs do fail, you can either do it yourself or call the recovery guys to do it for you. this is apparently a common failure on the TT. second issue was the thermostat sensor kicked the bucket. a lot of garages will try and chalk it up to the whole thermostat unit needs replacing - insist on a sensor check first and it is much cheaper to replace! also noticed clutch slip at 65k... i replaced the clutch around that time which a local garage charged around £300 (around £450 total because i found the part myself) - i don't think that's a car issue but rather a retarded previous driver issue. other than that, no major issues for 2 years. as a first time owner, i was kind of shocked to find hard scratchy plastic covering the dash and top of the door cards. doesn't feel particularly nice to touch (but then again, who would be driving and touching those parts of the car at the same time anyway?) but visually nice. the dashpod is nice. the buttons, gearknob and other controls very nice to touch. the cabin is very well sound-proofed and feels extremely refined even with high winds, heavy rain and big wheels :) i've got full leather seats and been keeping the common sagging issue at bay - i'd recommend people invest in a decent leather cream and freshen up bi-weekly. cupholder is really just designed for small bottles/coffee cups and for the driver. future owners should look into the drainage issues with the car - they become blocked easily and is usually the root cause of water build up in the boot (by the battery!), dampness in the cabin, dim or total loss of rear lights, and water inside the petrol cap. this can be a DIY job but be prepared to remove the wheels to access some drainholes too. look for issues with the speakers if the TT has a bose system - water and dirt also manage to access the area where the amp is kept. this is a hugely expensive replacement if you go to a dealer, so don't bother looking. look to budget around £170-£200 for a 3rd party to repair the amp and water/dirt-proof it. driving-wise - love the low positioning of the driver. steering is light but feels direct - typical of audi's anyway. not extremely involving but can be fun around really twisty roads at speed. good tyres are a must (pirelli p-zeros as a minimum standard). i just wish the steering was heavier like an alfa 147 or 2003 mini cooper or something. i enjoy the (kind of) extra practicalities of the TT over the Z4 and the fact good MPG (high 30's) is possible in a car like this if you drive sensibly on a motorway or cruising on a nice B-road. last recommendation: if you're going for pre-facelift mk2's, be aware of cambelt servicing. i think most facelifted mk2s (barring MY2010/2011) have a timing chain instead. all in all, this is not the most entertaining car even in manual, but still, a very comfortable good-looking one and it will put a grin on your face.

Really good video mate. I've had my 2008 FWD manual for nearly 2 years and I love it. I put 12K miles on and the clock is just shy of 70K. It's now a Stage 1 (Superchips 250hp, 310nm), got a Kenwood wireless Android Auto head unit, privacy film, new alloys (Romac Venom), new Mk3 style halogen headlights. It sounds and drives brilliantly specially on A and B roads which I go on to work and back every day (West/South Yorkshire). I had the cam follower, cambelt and water pump done last year, use only Vpower and get around 330-350 miles from a full tank (spirited driving). High performance tyres are a must specially on a Stage 1 FWD. I went for the Goodyear Asymmetric 5s on all corners and they're amazing.

As someone who has one of these, LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAYS from around 4:50 onwards. My one is 2007 and close to 90k miles and the engine suddenly completely ripped itself apart because of the cam follower. I only had the car for less than a year when it happened and it cost a around 1500 to fix the engine afterwards and had to use a special mod in order to fix it! These cars are great fun and I love mine but i cant stress enough how important the information that he gives you is!

Interesting and informative vid. I have a 2011 2ltr TFSI. I was pro Japanese previously, (Honda Civic Type R's). However, the build and performance of the Mk2 TT is far superior than the two FN2s I had. It feels solid and the performance is very quick. I too have the 19" rims, which do add road noise but ensure the car looks complete cool. The only disappointing thing I would say, contradicting the video, are the seats. For such a well built car, they are not wholly comfortable and detract from the driving experience. A more sold frame would have worked better. Otherwise, I enjoy each and every drive in such a still current looking, powerful car. Recommended.
@sampaddyprojectz2 жыл бұрын
We are definitely in the same boat! I’ve just picked up an FN2 the same year as the TT so I understand what your saying, and I do get what your saying about the seats would have been more in keeping with the rest of the car if Audi sprinkled a bit more quality on them!

Hi there I am returning back to UK after being away for nearly 15 years. AND this is the car I am looking to purchase- a Mk11, as it seems this is the best example of the TT model. Now, I am not sure on a couple of things: Engine size - 1.8 (as it seems they mainly purchased for the wife, no sexist remarks just it seems they are and hence lower milage) or a 2.0 petrol? Manual or S tronic? Would like your comments . Would like a soft top and if I can get a white colour model then would like to fit a Navy blue colour roof (only because I think it would a bit more classy?). Now, my present vehicle where I live is a VW Beach Buggy with a Subura Impreza engine- seriously AND its my daily driver. Well come all comments . Thank you

Had a 3.2 litre mk 2 TT and my buddy had a 2.0 petrol one. Both of us hated the things, handling was especially poor in the 3.2 with it being far to heavy. Was horrible to live with and the things are death traps, at anything above 90 it starts to become unstable and anything past 100 is just dumb. All of these problems you don't get with the sirocco and if you get a GT model of the sirocco you get amazing adaptive suspension, much safer, feels faster and the handling puts the TT to shame. At this point I'm honestly believing at this point halve the praise I hear about the mk2 TT is coming from people unlucky enough to be stuck with one. The only nice thing I have to say about he TT is the 3.2 sounds amazing but you can get one in a car that isn't terrible
@scitec616610 ай бұрын
You must of had some bad ones got a mk2 3.2 and TTS both are great at speeds, 1st thing I do with these cars is new premium tyres, shocks and springs and anything like wishbones drop links replaced with new ones, remember these mk2s are up to 17 years old so these parts need replacing, also most people probably don't go much over 100mph
@mightymulatto3000 Жыл бұрын
Buy a TT-RS as in the end the cost balances out for anyone who is going to keep it into high mileage vs the TTS. Most of the costs of maintaining a TTS is labor which sadly is very intensive as compared to the TT-RS.
