let’s talk a bit about common problems, should we : 1) water in the boot. in both convertible and coupes, drain are blocking easy and you end up with plenty of water in the boot.. 2) boss system is lovely , but the amplifier goes wring easy and the replacement cost around £400-£500 fitting EXcluded. 3) mobiliser unit can go wrong too. as a result you may end up with your boot opening every time you closing your passenger door or other gremlin like issues (common problem in plenty vw skoda etc) 4) if you go for the vr6 you will absolutely fall in love with the sound and the kick , but you will have to pay around £1500 every 100k for a chain replacement. 5) go for the quatro no questions asked. 6) it comes with magnetic suspension, haven’t drive it but i know it had a very expensive repair cost when will need replacement/fix (£4k-£5k) 7) in good news it looks much more expensive than what it sells in UK. 8) it feels much more expensive than what it sells in UK 9) snow is not so scary with the quattro 10) something v yes very important that a lot of people forgetting about this generation is that half of the frame is aluminium, which means much much much much harder to have rust issues. Also it helps have 50/50 weight distribution but yeah who cares about that 😂..

Only cost (apart from servicing) was a the driver's window regulator, a real gem of a car.

I was a Honda guy for 15 yrs. First was a beautiful late model 2.2vtec Prelude followed by two FN2 Type Rs. However, switching to a 2011 Daytona Grey 2ltr TFSI Mk2 TT made me wish I'd bought one earlier than 2020. The build quality and acceleration are far superior than the Type Rs. It's typical German engineering at its best. Matt hits the nail on the head stating the Mk2 hasn't aged. It's understated and easy in the eye. If I had one complaint, the front seats sagg somewhat. Mines only done 50k and I'm a second owner, yet it does let the overall experience down somewhat. I've read on TT forums this is a common issue hence was surprised Matt didn't mention it on his high mileage example. All said I'd highly recommend one and Matts review, as ever, is precise, interesting and engaging.

Had a mk2. Fantastic design, and the looks were the standout but it was quite unreliable and whatever could go wrong did. And this had low miles and full Audi service history. But yeah, for the money a good TT is a stylish car, just don't expect boxster levels of handling as they're typically Audi and have numb steering and are nose heavy. But good value. Well there are many things to consider before buying a TT. For starters, have you finished high-school? Do you have a decent job? Have you invested enough in your future? Is this all your savings? If so, have you considered the return on investment, mainly in terms of utility, and the roi in alternative ventures? Have you considered depreciation? Do you have money to maintain it? Have you seen alternate ways to invest your money which will bring more money before spending it on toys? Those are but a few considerations. And you should always check under the hood and look at the engine, of course.
@pemtax5572 жыл бұрын
Very thorough, you covered all of the items one would ponder in a car like the TT. So many reviews spend too much time on specs and equipment lists that anyone could research in minutes, however, real world impressions of what a car can do for ones mood and general well being is not so easy to find. Thanks for a glimpse into the TT ... a worthy detour from our every day rut. Cheers ...

I'm going to be that bloke but a friend of mine had a 3.2 V6 MK 2 TT & although he loved the way it went it didn't half empty his wallet. A rattling timing chain plus & few other engine issues cost him 3.5k to put right. & that was at an independent.

One of best TT Mk2 review videos to come out in recent years (I've watched all of them 😊). I have the privilege to drive my 2008 FWD Stage 1 model on a daily basis (expect when it's too cold or in snow) around Yorkshire's twisty roads and I fully agree to everything that's been said in the video. I like the mods and body kits and all but found it refreshing to see a standard model for a change.

Really nice review, I've owned and driven many, many car's over the years, as I did work in the motor trade for a while, so I know a good car when I drive it, so I tend to be pretty particular about my own car. I've owned 2 TT's firstly a MK1 225 Quattro, which I think had been remapped at some point previously, because it was stupidly fast, sadly it died on an Italian Autostrada, in torrential rain, not me driving badly I hasten to add... So then 3 years ago, I went to buy a 1 Series BMW M-spec Diesel, and was totally unimpressed asked the sales man what else he had, I might be interested in, and test drove my current car a 2009 TT Mk2 Tdi Quattro, and as a then 10 year old car had only 67,000, I probably paid a little over the odds tbh, but I absolutely love this car, it is so well put together and feels so planted on the road, it's comfortable on long trips, goes round corners really well, I find 3rd gear the best for quick overtakes, the midrange grunt from that 260 ft lb 2.0 common rail engine is just sublime, and the car is a lot quicker than people might give it credit for, and if you don't hoon it about too much does about 45-50mpg, the road tax is (in 2022) £165 compared to my Mk1 which was £300+ pa, and ranging about 28mpg 😕 My only complaints are the bonnet pull handle breaks too easily, and the known issue with the rear light earth, when the rear lights stop working, which is easily fixable, and took me about an hour to do with some extra wires grounded to the chassis in the boot either side, no other issues, it gets a service once a year with the MOT, and has been totally reliable, I'd agree about the heated seats as my mk1 had them and this mk2 doesn't, and I miss that feature. Yes I've also had the usual 'hairdresser car' jibes, but the last person to say that drove a baby sized SUV, so that tells you something, also it must elicit jealously for some reason, as I've had it keyed obviously by a total 🔔🔚 Overall I would definitely recommend anyone to try a MK2 Tdi Quattro, if you're after comfort, individuality in a sea of SUV sameness, as well as some decent economy, it is an utterly brilliant all-rounder, I'm going to be keeping mine for the foreseeable future. 👍 👍👍

Only thing I would mention is that it is so important on these cars to get all the optional extras that came on the car as retro fitting will cost a fortune. Look for cars with the top spec factory stereo, the 19 inch wheels ( you will want them) heated seats, rear sensors ( these don’t come with rear view cameras from the factory) take your time look and don’t be there are plenty of them about. Some with poor spec that I would avoid

I own a 2007 3.2 manual on private plates and body even now is still mint , only upgrades I have done is lowered springs on my 18 inch alloys looks awesome in my opinion and upgraded stereo system to pioneer and upgraded speakers all round blinding sound , only downside is road tax which is top tier unfortunately but for me very well worth it and still love the look ❤😊

I had a stunning MK1 back in 2002, and my brother later had the MK2, and I always thought the MK2 was a bit bland in comparison - my MK1.5 225 was quite aggressive in my mind.

Owned a Mk2 TDI for a while and regret changing it. I would 100% go for a Quattro. It’s not a permanent 4 wheel drive system like most other Audi’s but did give the car lots of grip. As a 6ft 4 18 stone male I had to put up with the hairdressers comments but it’s really much better than that. Also surprisingly roomy for a small car. Progressed to a S5 coupe which is just as good looking as the TT. All cars have problems but there is a quality feel to Audi’s.

Great styling the TT, preferred the mk1 styling though. The interior was one of the best, loved the chunky round features and gearstick style. Nice having space in the back to put coats and bags etc.

A ‘junior executive estate’? Remember when I first saw one of these in 1999 - you were right about about the shape,.mind you, there’s a bit of Volkwagen history with Audi. My next door neighbour’s boy friend bought one like the one in this.video. I found I thought it rather smart, and more of a real real.car than I previously thought. Another neighbour, who is a good pal of mine was a little dismissive, calling it a ‘handbag car’. They are not!

Unfortunately Audi won't make a mk4, at least in traditional form. People just aren't buying small sports cars anymore. There is a chance the TT will come back as a 4 door electric coupe-sedan, but at that point it isn't a TT anymore, is it.

Excellent vid. Great cars.- fun to drive and look pin sharp still. Watch out for leaking interiors which are common, either due to blocked drain under the electric spoiler or inadequate sealing around the tailgate hinges, and blocked drains in the doors. All rectifiable but can create problems with battery tray, amplifer, electric windows, and speakers. I;ve had to deal with this on mine and I'm not alone in facing this. None of the damage is expensive as breakers have all the parts you need. Also on the 2L the engine thermostat can run cold, which won't cause major issues but worth being aware of. Driver's airvents often broken due to people putting very heavy crappy clip on phone holders on them - again easy to DIY fix with parts from breakers. Finally rear lights can suffer an earthing fault. Plenty of videos online on how to fix that. None of this is a dealbreaker. And as stated in the vid, make sure cambelt done - if it isn't then do it.
