i didn't like Hua Hin its over prized way to many restaurants copying Europe one of the restaurant sells stakes from 500 B to 1000 B which is ridiculous its more expensive than in Australia on the other hand you can get Australian stakes in the shop cheaper than back home .i still got a plan on a building with a dip pool for 9,9 mill in the middle of nowhere well and its only a plan so be careful i have seen so many empty half build houses or complexes where people left without anything .i like Thailand but you need to leave there at least a couple month before you decide to by anything.

My husband and I moved here to Hua Hin last month, Oct. We visited during the hottest months March and April 2024. We figured if we can handle those months, we will be fine. We moved from the desert Las Vegas. Dry heat. I'm originally from Hawaii and can adjust to the humidity. So far we love it. We go out early in the morning and stay indoors during the hot times. Get a place with 2 aircons in case one goes out. 😊

Good advice. I have just returned to the UK after 1.5 years in Thailand. The plan was to permanently relocate but the incredible heat was what made us come back - it's relentless. Some might have a holiday and think they can cope, but when you are over a year in and you realise that there is no escape, it's pretty difficult if you enjoy walking in nature (or in general). I could deal with the other points mostly.

Hi guys, thank for the videos. I have lived in Australia from 2002 to 2016 and left beck to Hungary, as i also felt the scissor effect of rising prices and stagnating income. I have studied 6 years in oz, and graduated as an acountant and worked as a bookeeper and i steel felt that i can not continue forward, at least not in Sydney, where i lived most of my time. I have moved back to my home country and i have guesthouses for groups 10-30people which is going pretty good at the moment. The reason i wrote, is looking back on the life in Oz with more life experiences, that nearly everyone in Oz ignores the inland/bush to the point that it is considered an outright failure if you settle far away from the ocean. I think, there are not enough good examples of new settlers (immigrants) getting a big farm, converting part of it as an accommodation. Do you know such people taking the bush and getting a decent sided land and live under starts as a free men? Why 999 people out of a 1000 rather buy a phone boot to live in in Bondi?

Weather factor is huge. Hot, humid weather is ok for a few weeks holiday. Living in it is another story. I spent 4 years in North Vietnam and never got used to humidity. It actually got worse each year. Living in air-con continuously is disgusting and makes you sick.

Australian currently living in Cairns QLD. and lived in Bangkok for 3 years. Have holidayed in Hua Hin (waa hin) and it's fabulous for food, beach etc.Use Grab app, like Uber, as the local taxis' are expensive and not like Bangkok.

The relaxed attitude from Thai's is very good for your outlook and health, used Thailand as a base for FIFO for about 8 yrs when away working in Asia and was a big plus but they change when in charge of a vehicle, they are defiantly are in a hurry. The beer issue is not really a problem as readily available away from 7/11 but maybe 3 times a year it is OFFICALLY totally banned from sale, but then again you can get some. Water and Electricity supply is not 100% guaranteed but they do have local government agencies putting out interruption notices on Facebook but only in Thai and supply is nearly always extended beyond the proposed time but because infrastructure is outdated it occurs frequently. The area's near Hua Hin and Cha Am has one of the lowest rainfalls in Thailand.

Yes. Had the same problem with water cut off. Installed a 2000L top up tank with a float and pumped it into the house Problem solved.

I agree with the live there for a few months 3-6. Just to get a feel for the place and really see if you will like it. Plus learning some basic phrases goes a long way in helping you feel more like a local and living like one too. I am still working on learning Thai and i have a hard time with the alphabet but, at least I am trying. Great advice. Thanks. Just as my personal opinion after seeing the aftermath of a motorcycle crash in the US please wear a helmet. The guy I was trying to help did not wear one and he is permanently scared on his face. I also recommend wearing full motorcycle gear as well. Road rash really sucks.

To your comment about the burning season. You said it's because it's dry and hot, that maybe part of it but it's also because the farmers burning fields. Chiang Mai is brutal during this time as allot of that smoke comes from Myanmar. To your point on the driving. When I Googled 10 Most Dangerous places in the World to drive, Thailand was the first one on the list. I was kinda surprised it's wasn't India even though I've never been to India I've watched a ton of Bollywood movies. I go to Thailand every year. I drive in the North where my wife lives in Chiang Rai but I would probably never drive in Bangkok. To put that in perspective I was a long haul truck driver for most of my life. Travel safe everyone. BTW, I edited my comments because it pays to read what you type before hitting send.

Great summary mate, there is a big diff between touring and living, just one small detail at 2:00pm some restaurants wont serve you alcohol, no idea why some will. Ask three different Thai people why that is and you will get three different answers. Also make the point to get accommodation that has a pool, makes a big difference in the overpowering heat of summer.

Under section 32 of the law, alcoholic beverages may not be advertised in a manner which directly or indirectly claims benefits or promotes its consumption, and may not show the product or its packaging. The overall rule is that alcoholic beverages can only be sold during the hours of 11:00 - 14:00 & 17:00 - 00:00 (midnight) every day at stores and supermarkets.

We traveled to Thailand for 35 yrs and Hua Hin was the best spot for us 56/54 to retire early. But everybody should consider not buying a house here. They are gold digging with house prices. In my opinion everything is at least 20-40% overpriced for the poor building standard here in Thailand. But at one point you are wrong...the burning Season comes from Farmers burning sugar cane to ease harvesting.

You could mention the restrictions on owning property and that Falang will pay more than the locals when buying a condominium and the high probability that you will loose money if you wish to sell , as well as the usual poor maintenance on property as they prefer brand new here because of their culture.The need to deposit and keep money in a Thai Bank to qualify for a retirement visa as well as the restrictions on working and the proposed new tax laws on expats with foreign income and the need to report yourself every so often sorry if you’ve already covered this in another podcast

Totally agree. Thailand was on me and my husband list but it is no longer a retirement friendly country due to their imposed tax laws on retirement income. I'm 61 and my husband is 64 and he is fully retired. I was a homemaker. We have 4 streams of retirement income. Pension, 403b, social security and investment account which we don't need to touch. We get taxed 26% on the 403b which is hefty, 15% on social security etc. I can't see us coming to Thailand and being tax again. We will definitely visit but not to live. We are going to slow travel for one year in hopes of finding a country that has great benefits for retired expats.

Having lived in Thailand for the last 20 years I agree with the issues you’re pointing out. However, I think you missed out Thai Immigrations bureaucracy. If you’re applying for a one-year extension it can be an ordeal. I have to produce 50 pages of documents because everything has to be in duplicate and makes no sense. Getting a visa from a Thai Embassy/Consulate is a breeze by comparison.
