The thing that hit me was even if items spark joy doesn’t mean I need to own them. Millions of things in the world spark joy but overall a simple and visually calm space is what I desire.

I had a "oh no" reaction. Your husband's office looks like my mother's home. Each wall (except the bedroom) is just FULL of photos and knickknacks. It feels crowded, but that's what makes her happy. We surprised her once by putting same size photos together, put some away, and organized things to make it "breathe." She loved it and then said "I have more space....TO PUT MORE PICTURES!" It went right back to what it was with frame upgrades 😂. I love my mom, but oh....that drives me nuts everytime.

Living with my partner, I've learned letting them have their own space to do what they want makes the overall home less cluttered. He loves artwork & collectibles, so they're all around his office space & while it's not my style, it's his comfort space.

I like to look at my room through a mirror every once in a while. It suddenly looks like a totally different room and it really helps looking at it with new eyes. I guess that is the same effect as taking a photo.

I make it a goal to get rid of 5 things a week and at the end of the month I ask my neighbors if they want any of it and then I donate the rest. It’s important to me that my home feel airy and spacious and that I practice the art of letting go and not hoarding and that keeps me in that healthy practice. It also really has changed my shopping addiction because I do t want to have to around and get rid of it later so I also save a lot of money and time in shopping

A little thing that helps with seeing the stuff is (well two things) - look at it through a mirror, especially one that you don't regularly use. Or look at the room upside down. I find both those things make a room look unfamiliar enough to show you the focal points.

HELP ME PLEASE. I have medical issues. Sigh.... Just help

First, I want you to know that this is TOTALLY NORMAL. I do the exact same thing. Instead of focusing on a room I just try to focus on one small area in that room. In the kitchen, I try keep the island clear. In the bedroom, I try keep the bed dressed. In my office it's my bookcase. Etc. I rarely have a room 100% done. If it helps, pick a room that doesn't see too much action and focus on that. Trying to keep a kitchen clean, for instance, is really tough because it gets a lot of use. Whereas focusing on a guest bathroom or spare bedroom in the beginning might be easier because it won't get messed up as soon as you clean it.

@HowToGYST
@HowToGYST 3 жыл бұрын
Going to a library is completely different to books in your own home. You generally already know the title, author, and topic. It may work best if you have a large collection but, as I said, mine is pretty small and they're mostly all contained on one bookcase, so they're very easy for me to locate.
@gaildickerson2226
@gaildickerson2226 3 жыл бұрын
@@dcole6328 I know I feel the same way. I have lots of books that I actually read and reread so when people organize books by color or turn the spine around and only display the pages to get a certain look in a room I use to go crazy. I love books and reading so I thought these people are crazy. Now I just chill and watch them use their books as decor pieces, to each its own. I could never do that. My collection of authors are special to me and I group them together with the spine out and it looks fabulous to me and that's all the counts.
@l.williams6249
@l.williams6249 3 жыл бұрын
This is a home not a library. My books are organized by color and size because it looks better. I have no problem finding any book because I love them. If you don’t know what color, or size a book is or if it is hard or soft cover or what the spine looks like, maybe it’s time to declutter it🤷‍♀️
