This Is Your Life - Baron Andrew Lloyd-Webber Kt

My next TIYL upload from the world of theatre is actually a historic one because this was the first episode of TIYL on the beeb for 30 years. To mark the occasion this feature length episode pays tribute to a man who has done it all but it's not a sportsman its a composer. This person has composed 21 musicals, a song cycle, a set of variations, 2 film scores, a Latin Requiem Mass and had a role in Eurovision managing Jade Ewen's 2009 UK effort which came 5th. He has been named as the 5th most powerful person in British Culture by the Telegraph, the New York Times have named him the most successful composer in history and lyricist Don Black who got his own TIYL tribute a couple of years after this has said that this man has more or less single-handedly reinvented the musical. Also in 1997 the subject in question was made a Baron hence the title. My advice to you all is enjoy and get your singing voices ready as book master Aspel presents a very musical Big Red Book tribute to the undisputed king of the musical Andrew Lloyd Webber.

They were working on the score for `Sunset Boulevard` when I lived next door to Andrew and his first wife on W. Eaton Place. Don Black was a friend via Elmer Bernstein (a very good friend) `The Marilyn Scandal` had just been published and I had given Black a signed copy. The biography is as much about the life of Marilyn herself as an ode to the Hollywood starlet. There is more than a little of `Sandra Shevey` in `Sunset Boulevard` as there is more than a little of Sandra Shevey in `Evita`(my feature in `Harpers Bazaar` on Buenos Aires appeared before the show `Evita` was produced)
