A true comedy genius. I went to see Bobby Davao in Blackpool and Freddie was in another show which I also went to. I was sat on the end seat of the aisle when an old man pulled next to me in a wheelchair. Halfway through the act the wheel chair started to roll down the aisle building up spreed and the old man fell out. I ran down after him and Bobby jumped off stage to help the man up. It was Freddie Star playing a prank and we all fell for it. The audience went wild with laughter. Two great nights .

This is the note his career/ life should have gone out on. Love, lots of laughter, good friends around him, and the recognition he thoroughly deserved. It’s a very sad reflection of the times we live in that he left this life broken ill and alone. We all still cherish his memory anyway. A true legend and star.

OK, I was already withholding a blubbering reaction after 3 minutes as I respect this man so much, and that very same emotional response accumulated by each minute. For years I wondered how Fred would get on with the likes of the other ultra-great, Billy Connolly, and then, to my great-great surprise the guy walks on, so we've now two mega-rare comedic talents together (not rivals). Yes, at this point I totally broke down and cried as two of the greatest men of their trade were actually mates. I never imagined that they'd be remotely compatible as associates, and to see the affection between them, and the many other famous therein, is merely indescribable. Freddie, you were a very special person, and now you have gone, as we all must, my hope is that you can hear my thoughts or read these words of thanks. You went where I failed. With regards. Mark. Second Side Up.

Freddie was a genius, like many, tortured by his talents. An amazing performer, the stage, his natural plateau, the audience his friends, from where he entertained millions again and again. The end, was unfortunate, hiding away in Spain, agonising in the pit of accusation, never proven, never deserved. Thank god that someone eventually sued the witch hunters and halted them in their deceitful tracks of misery, albeit too late for Freddie. RIP Freddie, your genius will be missed, but your legend lives on in all of us.

A woman I used to work with told me how in the early 1980s when she worked as a waitress at a hotel, Starr was an occasional entertainment and would occasionally put his arm around her waste, move close to her and ask if she wanted to come up to his room repeatedly. She would always refuse and give him a look of disgust, yet she said he never took a hint and would keep harassing her occasionally. This was probably around that period.
