Isla Contoy is a small, uninhabited island, known for its pristine beaches and protected nature reserve. Isla Mujeres, on the other hand, is a larger, more developed island. It has a charming, laid-back vibe, with colourful streets, restaurants, and shops to explore. We are starting at Riu palace in playa del carmen, I'm trying to book for next month but it shoes me , their is no pick up at my hotel zone

You set up you pick up later, they pick up from any part of Playa del Carmen, and Hotel along the highway in the Riviera Maya, with Tulum they have a specific location designated

Wish had known about Isla Contoy went to Holbox zero wildlife no flamingos went on ttip to seim with whale sharksjust 2 after hoursin high seas in a tiny boat and wasnt warned of how bad it could get then whale shsrks surounded by around 40 boats ..just felt too ill and wanted to go back. Holbox was ok but not how imagined it with only transoort being the buggies which were 10 gbp for 2 minutes..

Hey Zeke 🤗 We actually didn't have any issues at all with mosquitos while we were on Contoy 🙌 I think if you were there around sunset, you'd really have a hard time with them, but mid-day seems to be just fine 😊 I'm not sure if a few drops of citronella essential oil on your wrists and ankles would be allowed, but I'm sure Ocean Tours can let you know 🫶

You can use sunscreen, but remember to apply it a couple of hours beforehand so your skin absorbs it completely. This particular tour departs very close to Punta Sam, and most tours to Isla Contoy include Isla Mujeres as part of the itinerary. Keep in mind that there's a limit on the number of people and the time you can spend at Isla Contoy due to government regulations. If you're interested, you can still take this tour and on another day visit Isla Mujeres for a full day on your own. We highly recommend that option. I'll be in Playa del Carmen on holidays this Summer and was planning to take a tour to Holbox with my kid, but it seems this tour to Isla Contoy + Isla Mujeres is an easier ride than going to Holbox. Is this correct? Would you recommend this tour instead of Holbox? Also, you mentioned you spent about 2 1/2 hours at Contoy, is this correct? How long did you spend at Isla Mujeres?

Hey Luis 🤗🤗 Oooh, you and your kid must be so excited 🇲🇽🏝️ If you're based in Playa del Carmen, this tour to Contoy & Isla Mujeres is definitely quicker and easier to get to in comparison to Holbox. You'll have the 1 hour drive to Cancun, and then you board the boat towards Contoy, where we spent about 3 hours, and then another hour in Isla Mujeres 😊😊 If you did Holbox, we'd recommend staying at least a night, because the distance from Playa del Carmen to Chiquila (dock location) is about 2 hours, but because you're not on a guided tour, you'll have a lot more time on the island 🏝️ We hope you guys have a great vacay 🎉🥳

Thanks for the reply! Indeed, we're very excited. I went to Playa del Carmen on my own in January 2022, but spent all week at the hotel. It was amazing, though! This time, I'm taking my kid and I want to take one of these tours. I was excited about Holbox until I learned about Isla Contoy and saw your video. I'm sold!! It looks amazing!! And, as said, I do believe it seems to be an easier trip/ride. We don't want to be stuck for hours inside a bus/van if we're taking a day tour to Holbox. I still want to visit Holbox, it is in my list! I might take a tour (night included) in a future trip to Cancun :) Looking forward to it! Great videos! Keep it up, guys! 😊

@@LuisDeBastos Amazing, yes we highly suggest even when staying at the resorts spending a day or 2 in PDC or leaving the resorts. You and your kid will love this tour for sure. We agree taking a day trip to Holbox can be a bit of wast of time, due to the hours of commuting, we rather stay there for about 2. nights to make the trip worth. Take plenty of suncream though because no shade anywhere once you arrive, I'm not totally sure if you could stay there, but you could always ask the question with the guys who run the trips with the boats. 👍

Back in 2005 we were told to use biodegradable sunscreen in the Yucatan.

Hey Janet 🤗🤗 Yes, biodegradable sunscreen and mosquito repellent is heavily encouraged in this region of Mexico. But I think the no sunscreen rule on and around Isla Contoy is so heavily enforced because over 50% of the reef is dead, so they've had to tighten up restrictions to take as much of the toxic load off of the environment as possible 😊🌴🐬

Not really is more like respect for the natural resources in the are to do not keep damaging them. You can use sunscreen but you have to apply hours before so your sling absorbs it 🙏🏼

You only have 2,5 hours on the island, then it`s back again, but yes it`s so much better than Mujeres "Playa Norte"

Did you see their tour guide on the island? There are long sleeve UV protection shirts for the beach/ocean. Like what the surfers wear. I got one from Quicksilver which was perfect.

@@samanthamcbarron624 I can understand the pain! We went snorkeling in Cozumel and no sunscreen was allowed to protect the wildlife, I was so badly burnt and had a fever the following day afterwards. There is something called swim tights/leggings but I haven’t tried them before!

Lol, my poor legs were burnt to an absolute crisp, but my upper body was ok because those UPF 50+ sun shirts are amazing!☀️ Geovanny was just blessed with that golden skin that seems to be unaffected by the sun 🫣🤭

Playa Norte is too small to be the best. Add in that it is packed with people. The water is calm and shallow, so it has that going for it, but way, way too crowded.

I took a 6 hour catamaran trip in Hawaii and got very sick, so I'm apprehensive about boat trips now. I've also never been snorkeling before, so I get scared of what could be in the water, but overall, I still want to try it!
