We used to do this race on road bikes Back in the day most of the roads were gravel and the "Trench" was still covered in railroad ballast....but Boag has always been a mud pit.

@@DontGetDroppedCycling too be honest there is.. riding a lot of muddy single track at my place. Helps you a lot with core stability and shifting etc.. and just like the video, you fall and get back up riding it smoother each time

@@BPM2001 Yeah, true words, I live in North Wales, UK. notorious for mud as it seems to rain all the time so even in the middle of summer you can often come back from a ride covered in mud, use your full body to balance and flow with the bike, something that takes time to learn but once you get it it's like poetry in motion, keep at it Erik.

I chatted with a top-20 in that event who rides locally in the Hammer. Told him about all your spillage. He shared with me that almost all top-20 rode the entire course staying upright. My guess is that you have wayyyy less experience with this zhit.

When i see you fall in the mud many times... it remind me.. If not counting when i was young kid or ride in cleat first time , I have not fall of the bike for 10+ years of riding. Then when start riding MTB and gravel bike, suddenly I become a newbie and fall so many times since. This kind of course is no no no for me while some people treat as "challenge" and "hero dirt"... hell no. I don't like riding in mud, water and heavy rain at all, ruin everything + can cost a fortune to repair the bike.

I ended up having an epic battle to the line with the older gentleman up front. I’d drop him on the hill, he would catch me when I was dying on the side of the road. Then he sucked my wheel to the line and my Zwift legs took care of at least ONE person!

Looks pretty awful. Why on earth would you get a gravel bike if you had to ride a track like this. A mountain bike is just going to be 10x better. OH NO YOU'LL LOSE 20 SECONDS ON THE 10km ROAD SECTION. Yeah, don't care. I'm sure I'll make it up for the hour I'm riding past all the gravel bikes falling in and walking through the mud.
