One note. As you practice this throw always block below the knee. If tori blocks at the knee and executes the throw the knee is at risk of being seriously damaged.

Man learn the fundamentals for judo because they can get dangerous and preformed a certain way they can get countered and abit of bjj guys may get unsafe for this.I don't like people using judo in bjj and learn some techniques and get dangerous and someone lands on their head.please have good sportsmanship doing these techniques i can't stand opponents getting hurt 🤕 because judo is the gentle art.

I agree that everyone should learn Judo. BJJ comes from Judo and in my opinion we should place just as much emphasis on the takedown as we do the ground game. 👍

I think its important to note on the extended leg one should be the ball of the foot with knee pointing down for safety of both uke and tori

The problem with this demonstration and the lack of judo foundation is that this is a hand-technique but 90% of the demonstration focuses on the lower body. The fundamental is how you create enough gap and motion on the top so the bottom ‘trap’ helps the fall, because the leg isn’t the driver of this throw
@nakapan
@nakapan Ай бұрын
@@JohnGeranien the focus of the video is how to make Tai Otoshi more effective without the gi. I understand the textbook saying that it’s a hand technique. Without the Gi, grips are not very robust so we’ll have to rely on the under hook and wrist grip to guide uke over the hurdle. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Thanks for watching 🙏

Very nice! Thank you for sharing. It’s effective, you don’t knee 1000 moves to make prior for the takedown 😅

Don't mean to be rude, but I'm very skeptical about nogi Tai otoshi in live action. Obviously, you show it's possible but I think there is a reason I can't remember seeing it done in countless hours of folkstyle, freestyle, nogi judo, or BJJ matches?
@nakapan
@nakapan Ай бұрын
Not so much in IBJJF matches since opponents can pull even after you make an under hook. No-Gi leagues like the ADCC are changing the landscape of how the BJJ community views takedowns and would be willing to bet we’ll see the emergence of Tai Otoshi in the next few years. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 🙏

@@nakapanYes, there are some examples of tai otoshi used in MMA. The techniques of wrestling, judo, and jiu-jitsu are now merging as the no-gi scene is growing tremendously in popularity, along with the growth of MMA, which has really carried jiu-jitsu along with it. Now former or current wrestlers are competing more in "grappling" tournaments, which is really becoming interchangeable with the word "jiu-jitsu" and the respective communities are closer due to free access to information. A few studious learners can basically teach themselves how to wrestle or do jiu-jitsu. Having a coach present helps tremendously.

This is a VERY BAD tai otoshi. Please please do NOT Tai Otoshi this way. 10+ years of Judo and countless other discussions and training sessions with very high level teachers from Japan and Korea, and I can tell you that if you do Tai Otoshi this way, when you pop your leg back, you will hyperextend your partner knees and injure your partner. I have personally seen 3 knee injuries of the partner that had this specific style of tai Otoshi done to them because of this popping the leg back style. Go to a legit Judo school and learn it the right way. Tai Otoshi is a classified as a hand throw, the original style Kano taught, your legs don't even go wide. The hand kuzushi is enough. But over the years people got sloppy. Everyone watching this vid, please avoid this style unless you want to f*ck up your partner's knees
@nakapan
@nakapan Ай бұрын
Many ways to hit the Tai Otoshi and particularly if you are attempting the throws from an under hook and without a gi. I would also argue that blocking your opponents shin is not dangerous unless you the direction of force is chopping directly on top of the knee. Thanks for watching and sharing your feelings on the matter. One thing we can agree on is that we should always look to keep our training partners safe.
