That knob reminds me a little of a SpaceNavigator. I used to use one of those all the time. It's essentially a 3d mouse. You can twist it left and right, push it to the right, left, forward and backward, and you can lift it straight up and push it straight down. It has buttons on the sides for configurable functions, and it's a very solid device, heavy and satisfying to use. In a video game, it can make 3d navigation really smooth and intuitive. I used it in 3d modeling software to pan and orbit around objects in 3d to take still photos of 3d renders to create a webcomic (the modeler was also a sort of game, Second Life). I used it to build objects in Second Life and manipulate their positions precisely in a 3d space environment. It's a very powerful device, but not a lot of applications supported it properly, and I think it's gone obsolete. I haven't checked to see if it works with anything lately. It's a shame, it's a wonderful device. I don't know that I'd like that Craft keyboard, though. I prefer a more ergonomic keyboard, with some "tenting" in the middle so my hands aren't so flat to the surface. It cuts back on the carpal tunnel a bit in my experience. So I'm using a wireless Microsoft Sculpt. But I do use a Logitech mouse....actually, a Logitech trackball. But I used to use one of their fancy gaming mice, with a ton of buttons on it. But I don't have a lot of physical space for controls, because I have my computer arrayed sort of around a recliner. The monitor is on a swing arm anchored to the floor by the chair itself. My keyboard is on my lap. My recliner has a nice little tray table built into the right armrest, and on that table is my trackball, a USB hub, and my ham radio morse code key. I have not only my computer next to my chair on a wire rack, but my ham radio station as well, one radio on a RAM mount hanging just to the right of my monitor. But I operate the radio with a remote control app on my desktop, and use my Zoom H4n Handy Recorder as a high-end microphone for the radio through its USB interface. Everything's all at my fingertips, because I'm disabled and spend a LOT of time in the recliner. It's almost like a spaceship cockpit! There are fancy chairs with surround-vision monitor racks and zero-gee reclining for gaming, but my recliner is powered recline and lift, so it's easier for me to stand up. And it's big and soft and comfortable. It's my own remote virtual immersion pod into the rest of the world.
