This Kinda sucks!! | not having enough alfalfa!

In todays Episode of The Chronicles of Kayla - yield realky did suck - probably the most beautiful alfalfa weve ever cut just not enough or it! The equipment we have been running really makes a difference how we put up good hay -- just kinda sucks when mother nature doesn't rain enough to make what we're adding to the soil in Lime and Fertilizer work -

Hello! Love watching your series, but I have a genuine question. Do you guys just leave the alfalfa out to dry by itself in the sun after you mow, or do you run a tedder through it? Struggling to recall if I have seen one on your farm yet.

No Tedder!!! I think if it was any thicker. Then yea. We’d have to do something different. ESP like in 1st cut grass when it’s really thick. We could use one. Otherwise we just let it dry & then rake it to finish drying in the windrow.

I guess I failed to see what was broke! Jason replaced pickup teeth - with 50000+ bales on it. Just regular maintenance to puttin up good hay. No difference than keeping it greased and twine in it. Thai is the same baler we ran in 2023 when we purchased it.

Have you ever worked your heelers with a ball retrieving? Finest dove hunting retrieving dog I ever hunted around was a heeler that belonged to a friend.

Hey how do you like the mineral feeders with the Oilers ? Do they help a lot with the fires?

Yes I think so - when they go in to get mineral they’re rubbing their faces on it. We still have flies but never on their faces - causing pink eye issues. Which is the main struggle. We have started adding Redmonds Garlic into our Mineral base and I think that’s also helped.

That is some #1 alfalfa! I don't see leafhopper damage. They would sting the bottom side of the leaves and those leaves would turn yellow. That conditioner must be getting the stuff crimped. I'm looking forward to talking to ya'll at Louisville.
