I cried while watching this. My grandfathers were both Korean War Veterans. My last grandfather passed away this past may. He thought no one cared because he was part of the forgotten war and never talked about it. I finally got a story about 5 years ago at my college graduation dinner. I wish I could have taken him with me to South Korea 2 years ago when I visited. He would have loved to have seen the country. Our family has many pictures he took but will never get to hear the stories because he passed. So thank so much for doing this, showing these veterans how much they actually meant and recording their stories.

What a remarkable young man!! I know that I'm going to sound like a typical old man when I say this, but too many young people today don't know about these sorts of things and they're certainly not taught about them in school anymore. I'm a Vietnam War veteran, and I can honestly say that our biggest fear is to not be remembered for what we did. Way to many people forget that "Freedom isn't Free!" Hey Asian Boss, my friend here is a 90-year-old Korean War vet and every time I talk to him, he cries about a "house boy" named Mickey who he wanted to adopt after the war. But due to restrictions of age, he was unable to take him to America. He still has a bunch of photographs and letters from Mickey, and his dying wish is to find him, or at least find out if he's alive. I wonder if you can help. I know it's a long shot but I have exhausted all options to try to find this man.

My grandpa was a Korean War veteran and he lives with us. Strong and healthy at 93 years of age. He worked as a Liason officer between South Korean and UN forces working in the intelligence unit. He showed me his service medal gifted to him from the South Korean government, proud of his service but anguished by the brothers and family he’s lost to war and combat. I can only imagine the darker days he lived through, but also how his generation truly was “the greatest generation”. Mad respect for all veterans out there.

I met a Korean War veteran last year who served in Jeju Island as a guard in a Chinese prison. He made me laugh by saying that what he missed most about Korea was Makguli. We became friends and I introduced him to other Koreans in the community. A Korean general who lives here now ordered a modern participation medal from Korea, made with shell casings from the war and barbed wire from the 38th parallel. We presented it to him with the local Korean pastor and prayed for him. He wept and we are great friends now. I visit him monthly and he gave me some original photographs he took in Jeju and also in Operation Little Switch.

What a touching interview and what a worthy project. This interview brought back memories of taking a photo (1951) of me when I was 6 and my older brother dressed in his marine uniform, preparing to leave to fight in the Korean War. I’m also remembering the night a man in uniform delivered a telegram and my mother crying when we learned he had been wounded and was missing. A long time later, I’m recalling my father making a special trip school to me he had been found and was safe. And, finally, the happy day my brother came home and his sudden, surprise appearance in my classroom. Sadly, he died two years ago. How I wish he were alive to participate in this amazing project. I send my deepest thanks and appreciation to Rami Hyun for his breadth of vision for this project. Thank you, Asian Boss, for featuring him. Thanks for prompting memories of a brother who was my sun, moon and stars.

Really enjoyed this video. I’m fortunate to live in DC where I can walk through the Korean War Memorial every weekend to pay homage. The memorial is most poignant during snowfall, when the statues of soldiers are laden with snow on their helmets & packs. The National Park Service is in the process of adding a new Wall of Remembrance that will list more than 40,000 Americans and KATUSA who died during the Korean War

This is really heartwarming. I sometimes disappointed in myself because of my nationality, feeling disgust in my country. After rethink so many times after graduating from college, I always feel that us as younger generation should change something that bad in our country. I mean, all of countries have their own good and bad things. Eventhough as individual the change won't be that great, at least I felt that I help to change my country in my way and hope someday it will ripples and become a small things that might help. I can't keep myself not to cry while watching this. Really, I take those freedom for granted meanwhile there are countries which still in war just to fight for their freedom and nationality. Thank you so much. I learnt a lot.

As a veteran myself, this makes me so happy to see that people like this are trying to preserve history and shed light on that forgotten war. What a wonderful thing to do, it is inspiring to me and makes me want to do something similar at my American Legion or at a VFW.

My brother was 17 when he fought in the Korean War and he passed when he was in his 60s. I was a little child at the time, but I remember my mother crying because she hadn’t gotten a letter in a very long time. I wish he was still with us for many reasons, but he would have loved this wonderful man! I worry for our freedom in the USA, as there are factions in our country working very hard to give that freedom away! I pray for the world daily! Thank you for this uplifting interview.

This what I always think too... agree when He said "Without documentation, future generations will not be aware of the sacrfices these proud veterans made for them" , Korea and my country has same age, we got our independent at 1945, and the veterans already old and some of them die without get their title as veterans and just die without remembered. They may very young at that time, but they already over 50 years now. The remaining veterans has various fate, I wish their story could stored or documentated somewhere. You did such a great job, Rami !

Reading up a bit on the Korean War topic, one of the most painful lesson taught is the cost of unpreparedness. After WW2, people were just tired of war so the military got downsize tremendously. When the Korean War broke out, no one is prepared at all. Freedom truly is limited by our ability to defend it.
