It's really bad here's why: - Bad screen quality (gray-to-gray response time of ~21ms rise/fall, ~45fps of clear visuals with anything faster smearing) means g14 is a no-go for games that are relatively fast-paced - Poor font application means color contrast between key letter and keycap is almost nonexistent (in other words, you cannot clearly make out the letters at different viewing angles, brightness levels, etc.) - rtx 2060 with a tdp of only 65w which means even a 1660ti in a much cheaper laptop (such as the helios 300) can outperform it in most games - poorly designed cover (which may accumulate grime, dust, etc. and damage the build of the laptop) - storage upgrade options are relatively limited (just one m.2 ssd slot available) because of the smaller form factor - many more laptops can do better in bright environments than the g14 because of its dim display - Hinge-centered thermal management may cause screen damage in the long run due to hot air blowing onto it from the exhaust vents positioned on the top edge of the keyboard deck, near the hinges - Prominent, high-pitched fans affect its usability in quieter settings (such as in libraries, lecture halls, offices, coffee shops, etc.) even on idle (and especially under load)

@@ShehraanHafiz well it's not a premium for the brand, it's a premium because the closest thing to it is the Blade Stealth 13 which has a weaker GPU and CPU and is more expensive. Minus the RTX 2060 , it keeps up with my old X9C as far as the cpu is concerned and the 2060 has zero issue with any game at ultra settings at 1080p. One cool thing I really like is that the display can easily set to 144hz while actually being a noticeable difference. RDR2 I average 70-88fps at ultra settings at 1080p which blows me away considering the size and low wattage of the G14. I could go on and on but apart from the keyboard i can say ASUS made and almost perfect portable gaming solution.

I found the ryzen 9/2060/1tb/16Gb version on best buy for 1199.99. seems like a LOT of value for the $100 increase. I can't imagine she actually needs 64 gb of ram for video production/ graphics. Adobe will use that much ram if you have it, but even a modest increase in CPU between the ryzen 7 and the ryzen 9 will have a greater performance gain than extra ram on top of 40 GB. I assume the performance boost you saw between the two ram configs was mostly due to single vs double channel ram than actual capacity.

All true but no laptop is perfect. At this price point the G14 is the best in terms of the power it has and the cost it carries. I like to say it can game but it's not a proper gaming laptop no in the size and the form factor that is has. I opted for a 4800HS with just a 1650 for casual gaming and mostly office work. Those looking for competitive gaming and designing might want to look at at different machine. Those who aren't worried about the slow screen or don't need the highest accuracy screen, it's perfect for people like those, including me. Also the $799 price tag for the 4800HS + 1650 was just too good to pass up on. I think that justifies the shortcomings. Everything else that you mentioned, I think a low/medium power user and not a hardcore gamer/designer can live with. Except the holey lid. I plan to slap on a sticker/skin as soon as I get it. I hate holes. The idle fan sound issue should also be be fixable with a bit of a tweak as can be the battery life settings to get 10+ hours. One of the major reasons why I am getting a 'gaming' laptop for work. All things said I think a lot of people have a lot of good things to say about this but this isn't going to be one size fits all for everyone.

I'm having doubts in purchasing this laptop, I am concerned with its fan noise. Based on what I have read, it has a pretty loud fan noise even on idle, but I am not sure if it applies across all models. Can anyone share their experience on fan noise?
@DrewGlenzer4 жыл бұрын
You want a powerful gaming LAPTOP that is quiet? Good luck. If you find one it'll be huge.
@letmetryscience45354 жыл бұрын
All gaming laptops have fan noise if you want to keep them cool, the g14 because of its size has louder than normal fan noise. But, if you're willing to do some tweaking, it is--imo--the best gaming laptop of 2020. The primary thing about this laptop is taming the insane CPU which is like a wild stallion that needs to be reigned in. Go to the G14 forums on reddit and look at the stickies for tips on how to keep this beast cool/more quiet.

I have a G14 with a 4900HS and 2060 Max-Q. At idle its really quiet. Armoury crate (the Asus ROG tuner app that comes pre-installed) says system acoustics is at 24.2 dBA. When under a load though it does get quite hot, so I set it to max fan speed which reports at 49.3 dBA. So all in all, very good acoustics.

I'm glad I'm getting this for Christmas! I play Rust, and that game needs BEEFY specs. (Minumum GB of RAM is 10 GB and recommended is 16 GB RAM) and the laptop looks awesome, ratings are amazing, cant wait to use this! The laptop I'm using right now is so bad, I can barely run ROBLOX on decent graphics. But to the point, this is an AMAZING laptop if you're considering buying this!
