Would you be able to add a dedicated video showing different stress tests and the results? Engraving patterns, cutting different test templates ... ?

Thank you very much for this very informative video. It allows me to clarify two points on which Spider had given me information. But these points needed to be tested in real life. - First of all, I had a concern about the possible offset when the laser is used in "single (roller)" mode. You have confirmed that there is indeed a shift when the system is "tortured" by a pattern that involves a lot of back and forth. As you said, this is suitable for single pass engraving. Fortunately, your experience proves that the accuracy is there when the frame mode is used. - Secondly, I had asked Spider where the focus of the laser was made: on the surface to be cut or in the middle of the thickness (like the xTool D1Pro). They answered in the middle... but your video shows that there is only one lever to focus the laser, whereas on the xTool D1 Pro, a second lever allows you to take into account the thickness of the part to be cut. By focusing the laser on the middle of the thickness, the power is distributed, and the cut is cleaner, especially on thicker parts. Contrary to their answer, this is not what Spider uses. Perhaps there is still time to consider this device?

Thank you for watching! I have the xtool d1 pro 10w version, and that also only has a single focus adjustment arm. I think the 20w module does have a separate material thickness adjustment just as you described though. I tend not to try and cut thick materials with my 10 watt lasers, so adjusting focus to be in the middle of the material isn't much of a concern. But if you are often cutting thicker materials, I can see how that could be desirable. I would assume the Spider X1 behaves like many other 10w lasers, and the focus arm assumes a set material thickness of like, 3mm.

@@HoffmanEngineering Here is what Spider answered to the same comment on the comment page of their campaign : we applied a level on the 10W version, and if customers need to cut thicker objects, they can adjust the height of the laser head to focus the laser beam. The adjust range is 0-60 mm, as our page shows. When it refers to 20W, we plan to engrave a ruler on the laser head [like you said] as other brands. I understand they plan to add some scale to adjust the height of the laser, independently of focus, to adapt to the thickness of material.

Does lightburn recognize the machine and able to adjust the workspace for the spider?

My husband has been trying to get this thing to work now for months and has not been successful in the slightest. Is there anything you can do to help us with this? (We have lightburn as the program, but all we get is, device busy or paused messages m, and when gling through the TCP error code 61 populates) thoughts?

Thank for the reviews. You have done so many reviews of different brands of laser engraver. Some brands claim that their engraving accuracy has HD 8K resolution. Comparatively is Spider X1's resolution as good ?

I want to etch / engrave on metal and cut / engrave some ply. Would this be a good unit to start with? What would you recommend for a beginner for less than $500? Should I buy LightBurn when I get a laser engraver???

Would you recommend this for a beginner, normally I’d get a smaller device to see if it’s something I want to take up but this seems like it has the pro of extendable frame if I continue but very nish if I wanted to sell.

It is very niche, that is true. The quality of the manuals are an important factor to whether I recomend something to true beginners. A good manual can make or break that newcomers experience. Unfortunately, with this being a Kickstarter, they don't have finalized user manuals, so I really can't judge that. Their videos are good, but doesn't answer all the questions a beginner might have. I'd expect them to have a good manual upon shipping, but I have no idea if that's the case.

could the 20W cut thru alumin sheet or stainles steel... like a allumiun can sheets.. I looking into buying some gobos but at 25 a PC may as well buy a lasser engraver or cutter..
@OnlyMadnessPain Жыл бұрын
Theres no diode laser that can cut metal. U can only egrave. Only fiber laseres can cut threw metal sheets. Plasma cutter is what u want if have no budget around 10000 dolars (minimum)

@@OnlyMadnessPainim wanna make some gobos off very thin aluminum sheet like .64nd .128nd or stainless steel. I belive plasma would leave a very ruff not very clean edge.the gobos I need are abou an 1inch in diameter. not much space to move or work..
@OnlyMadnessPain Жыл бұрын
@@ladjkaoz 0.123 what's that ? 3.5 mm ? "Sorry friend I'm from eu" And yeah plasma isn't as gentle as a laser. Cutting steel sheet or worse aluminum is a difficult process. U can cut something stupidly thin as 0.05 or even 0.1 mm with diode laser but nothing else. Ikier realized 20 watt fiber module but doubt that it will cut anything more than 0.2 mm steel
@ladjkaoz Жыл бұрын
@OnlyMadnessPain I'm familiar with metric but even 1 mm is would still too thick... I guess a fiber laser would do the job but a 50W fiber laser still over 1500 us dlls... the gobos inplant to cut cost like 300... material included... im still looking for a laser engraver. and technolog improvements... 👍😉🤣

The laser head works fine but the main issue is it's tracking system. You can't complete any big jobs because it is inaccurate! Their customer support want to video chat with you but for most Americans it at 9 or 10pm since they are in China. Worst purchase I have made
