Hey there! I'm the campaign creator, your video is literally the second one that i found that is minimally biased towards personal opinions, and so i'm not taking it personally because i perfectly understand your frustration with the last chapters. As i always address when people mentions it, i designed the campaign entirely with human teamwork in mind. Bots may be doable, but not what i intended for, this really shows when you invited a friend to the match and the challenge was cut in half, the less the bots to babysit, the more time you have to actually focus in the game and do REAL teamwork. About Chapter 4 and 5, i'm not done with the campaign yet. Chapter 4 gonna get a rework EXACTLY where you complained about the forest being dull and flat, i rebuilt it entirely to look less flat, even though it will remain as a pitch black dense forest when outside the lights of the road or landmarks, the spawning rate of commons will be reduced as well, having years of level design experience does not automatically means that i would make perfection straight away, the road section was my very first time making an external area in Source Engine and gosh making external areas in Source is such a fucking pain, so mistakes has been done. Chapter 5 went through a shitton of balance adjustments during the whole of 2021, and i was basically forced to make the finale in Expert have 20 Gas Cans and 2 Tanks straight away due that the majority of Expert players being no social lifers with 10.000+ hours sunk into the game, and so they would open the fence door and just whoop everything in a single minute when the requirement was 13 Gas Cans for all difficulties. Actually the most criticized map is Chapter 5 because many many people thought that the Truck Scavenge Finale was such letdown from all the previous happenings in the campaign, myself agree with that but that chapter is something i wanted to remember the players that the survivors are not rambo or any sort of super-humans, they only managed that load of shit previously because their experience in dealing with the infected, but even them needs to keep going with the journey of finding a place that is not infested or their endurance will eventually break just like everyone else. Anyways, notes taken, Chapter 4 Road Section was already under rework since July and i'm near to finish it. Chapter 5 will probably remain unchanged, but since last year i decided that i'm going to make an alternate Chapter 5 where the survivors will stay at The Maze and face a different finale in there, the decision in which finale the players wanna play will be made Chapter 4. TL;DR Thanks for playing, and future updates will probably cover the issues you pointed.

What makes the final map so bad too is that it's all flat land. Gas can finales are the worst thing ever in general, but in Dead Center, the stairs and different elevations allow you to break off constant pursuit of infected. You can jump over tables and chairs, which slows their pursuit of you down, gaining some mild (but important) distance. You can jump on and off the stairs, which will get you away from infected significantly. You can funnel the infected on the stairs, the bridge, and hallways. The infected in general also have to climb up and down stuff just traversing the map to get to you, which makes them slower. The gas cans being on different elevations in Dead Center also allowed you to just throw them at the car, so you don't have to carry every single one all of the way back. Flat land on the other hand means your options of getting the infected off your back are non-existent. You cannot funnel them through tight places. You cannot jump over objects or go up certain places to slow them down. And they are always following you at top speed because there is nothing hindering their movement or forcing them to climb up and down. They are always gunning for you at top speed. Likewise, you have to carry every gas can through this flat land without any shortcuts. If a developer is too incompetent to balance the difficulty of their maps, which ISN'T THAT HARD TO DO btw, then they shouldn't release said maps. This also includes actual game developers. This finale is terrible even on Advanced.
@QuintessentialWalrus2 жыл бұрын
You're spot on about the importance of elevation in Left 4 Dead but come on, let's not act like balancing difficulty is always an easy task. Game development is HARD, and that includes mod development. Redoing the layout of the finale to include more elevation changes and tweaking infected spawns to be perfectly balanced in the new layout could take MONTHS of unpaid work in your spare time using a horribly outdated game engine. I made two popular campaigns and I would genuinely consider every single aspect of L4D2 level design to be hard in some way (largely because Hammer is a terrible computer program).
@MythicMk.V2 жыл бұрын
@@QuintessentialWalrus It's less of remaking it and more of it shouldn't of been done in the first place. I understand that the minute details of balancing can be overlooked, but this is the type of thing that is very obvious and a basic play test in an early stage would show something is very very wrong. There's a difference between overlooking minor problems that may be a bit unfair later, and then completely overlooking something that is bad in both theory and practice blatantly on a HUGE scale in every aspect. And an entire section/finale at that. It's not a bad spawn or two or a slightly unfair area that needed a bit of a tweak in hindsight. Everything is just massively screwed up in every aspect. TLDR: I stand by overall balancing should be easy and that's what I was generally referring to. Though I understand unbalanced things can arise on a more minor scale that can potentially require hindsight. This map does not fall under that however.

The 4th map has been updated. It is now vastly improved. Instead of the long empty road, you now emerge into an above ground military base with lots of buildings you can search for stuff and a main gate to exit. You then travel along a road through the forest, getting attacked by wanderers through the trees instead of hordes every 20 seconds. This road is similar to the one in death toll in how it's designed. Also, in the bunker complex that leads to the houldout event, you can collect a bunch of cans and other stuff as well as refill your ammo before the event. If you get to the room with the big door and clear it out, but don't start the event, you stop all spawns from happening (similar to the gun store in dead center before you open the alarmed shop doors) and can spend as much time as you want setting up in peace.

Map 3 crescendo event is still the best crescendo event i have ever experience in L4D. Map 4 is a nightmare for solo player but i always have friends so map 4 is still very fun mangable to beat. Map 5 is very hard in solo mode because scavenger mission is always the most annoying mission of L4D to me. You are right about the map isnt that great in expert. i never like playing custom maps on Expert, Advance is my most enjoyable difficulty, and i always play with friends so my rating of the map might be different. Too much foliage, too little hints, too little cover and too little supplies for me to fuck about. Landmarks exists but they are just there for no reason. And then I literally walked into the Maze with a capital M. And then the last crescendo in the fourth map. It's like the Bloody Moors all over again.

But then when I give my opinion about campaign and your video, so I want say your editing skill and commenting are pretty good - I mean ofc English is hard to speaking clearly, but I understood you easly; so isnt the big problem :) Returning to campaign - the beginning tell you simple and easy understanding story. Nothing more complicated and thats fair fine, but for me I like there a lot more than like: Well the facility was attacked by the horde of zombies and now you must escape there - but this isnt the issue. The design is well done and I like is close to Black Mesa looking, ofc not the same and any facility probably looks like that - but looks honestly good and the event also is fair balanced Chapter 2 is honestly my the most favorite part in campaign, because - Damn! The level design and creepy tunnels are nuts! Also its awesome the creator of campaign trying show you the characters have hallucinations and this is big plus from me. The creator have free hands to convince you which situations are real and which are fake - then we going to safe house, when I saw that the first time; then I sayed "Dude, this creator made the amazing job" its was clean and well done. I think a lot other players had the reaction "What happens" and I love it! Later the event which are fine and the last- That's a Pyramid Head from Silent Hill? Haha x3 I dont complain the creator used the model, but I like it - its adding fear and making you face open (Another word being suprise). But its cool designed map, but its weird placed - because this is facility and why they have weird tunnels? And later the monster who's maybe are not real or is. We dont gonna know that xp Chapter 3 is more... I think its normal, but! About special infecteds are to much in event, but maybe the map is creating for more teamworking between players not for bots (Sorry bots, I love you). But killed 30 special infected in one event is so much and for me thats not gonna be great x3 I like more story telling campaigns, but thats to hard for casual players - but you had the fun for that and thats great ^^ Chapter 4. Another word forest, street and darkness - the three things which are perfect fitting to map design and I love it; I dont know you played the Cry of Fear (But probably yes, because its free xd), but CoF have the same vibe in some moments and I loves some like these atmosphere. But we are going to between design and gameplay, because your point is clear for this map - its too dark, open big map and also common zombies are crazy, so I understand your fustraction and I'm not suprised. Because its uncool when you can't literally saw the special infected and also common zombies can easly surround you, so yeah. Not amazing expierence and I feel your pain. xp But map design is amazing and I love it, but the same time about common zombies (Which are not nice) and darkness. Okay I gonna say, I like the darkness maps and feeling somebody hiding in darkness waiting for great moment for catching you, another word the darkness gives you great vibe/atmosphere. When the creator throwing to you the fricking anytime so much zombies and same time the map is open - its not amazing, I can give you right. Anyway also I saw the creator just comment and I have feeling like he just got the slap on face and starting like "NOnonono! You are wrong, this is map for teamworking" and etc. If in description dont telling you this map is creates for teamworking players then its right for you NasCoz, but if its writed that - then its different story. Chapter 5 I dont gonna say to much, its have the same final like Dead Center - but you must collect more fuel and handling two tanks in expert? Its soo bad xd But the finale, when you finnish the map - then animation wasnt like "Woow! Its the best ending I ever had", but more "Meh, its just basic. Wow the truck just smashed the fence, wow". Then thats idk, basic.. Just it - when the Chapter two just showing amazing moments and even with fake safe house animation was super cool and this is big plus for creator, but... this final is just idk. Not amazing I ever saw x3 Btw cool video 💖

So, I think the second chapter of Buried Deep is meant to be a massive reference to the movie (whose name eludes me right now) but I recall when I played this campaign there was a car that got lit on fire during this chapter and that reminded me of that movie because there was a scene where a car got lit on fire and pulled someone into it before morphing in on itself taking the poor soul with it.

The piano and the phone might be references to the movie "As above, So Below".

Is it me or this this map has a reference from a movie called as above so below, maze runner and cabin in the woods (at the finale) or something... But overall. Fun and enjoyable map, the best part is the elevator part . Intense fight NGL 9//10 for the campaign

Chapter 2 is basically something like a nod from As Above, So Below. A movie about haunted Catacombs being like some sort of gateway of Hell
