One aspect of it I think you failed to mention is how the thickness of it doesnt align with anything else in lego. Most brackets extend put exactly half a plate outward, and the snot bricks allow you to extend out by one plate. But with this piece it is something like 3/8ths of a plate outward. On the one hand it cant be used with any of the other snot techniques, but it allows you to get the tiniest of difference in height possible on a surface in lego.
@Olego
@Olego Ай бұрын
I’ve actually encountered this in my research, but I couldn’t find a good place to fit it in; the unique thickness is definitely something unique that could work for some MOC builders. Also, a cool thing is that there’s actually two versions of the piece, where bricklink categorizes it as thick vs thin back. I’m pretty sure the thick and most recent version does actually align with other brackets: x.com/NewElementary/status/1158732721906245632

@@OlegoThats pretty cool, I’d never noticed they updated that piece, I guess I haven’t gotten any new sets with it. Also I’d never heard of an LDU as a unit in lego measuring before, but I guess I was right in my initial assumption of it being 3/8ths of a stud lol.
@jonpgale
@jonpgale Ай бұрын
Nice informative little video here! The old and new versions are indeed different thicknesses and neither of them actually fits perfectly in-system with the other parts! That can be both useful and frustrating in different ways! There’s also a version with a technic connector instead of a stud connector which can be helpful in some situations
@anothergol
@anothergol Ай бұрын
@@Olego yeah it's already 5 years old now. Also it only aligns on the back side, the neck side will always be a bastard one. There is also technically a part designed to properly hold everything neck, including heads and neck brackets, it's 24445, which is rarely used.

Great video! This was really helpful. A piece I would love to hear creative uses for is the rigid short shirt piece (65753). It's a cool piece, but because it's designed to fit over leg studs it doesn't have any other way to connect with that sized hole. I feel like there must be some way but it's beyond my expertise.

@@Olego Generally none of mine risk damaging the parts like some illegal techniques, but they are often very flimsy connections. Like I put one of the neck brackets on top of a brick, then placed a cheese slope on top of that "connected" to the teeny tiny bit of stud sticking up through the bracket! It only even kind of works because I have other parts on top keeping the cheese slope from going up.

The neck bracket is close to being perfect only if it didn’t extend below the stud. Watching later into the video, I forgot about those usage of the end of that bracket, but I remember having to cut just the end off because it was in the way of making a perfect model.
@Olego
@Olego Ай бұрын
I think there's some merit to the extra space for filling in gaps and extra detailing, but a second version that doesn't extend could definitely be useful as a direct substitute for the normal 1x1 bracket
