@@calebbrunkow get some cheaper L lenses. I personally love the 100-300L f5.6. So good for landscapes and such.

Did you shoot your opening footages wide open with ND or stopped down? Beautiful footages by the way.

That all was wide open with ND

that lens is bonkers. as an fd collector myself, i love the look of vintage canon glass, but the f0.95 is just insanely good looking. also the possibilities of the fx3 & fx6's dual native iso + the f0,95 are very interesting, like imagine a horror flick in the woods at night, with zero lighting, no one can see a thing, but the camera can. insane. excellent review.
@calebbrunkow3 ай бұрын
That would be such an awesome premise for a short, shoot at 0.95 so you just see a vague blurry figure behind the lead or something
@Digi202 ай бұрын
i have done some night shots on the laowa argus 45 0.95 (very special character too, much sharper and contrasty wide open, but flares like an old lens and has a very distinct and creamy bokeh, just which it was a bit longer) and yeah with a modern camera you can do some pretty special things at iso12800. definitely fun. you might also want to look at the meike 50mm 1.2, its super cheap, very well built, is inner focusing so you can throw on a heavy mattebox and filters and it produces beautiful red flares across the frame.

i bought mine for 1,100 along with a old canon rangefinder camera that works great. been thinking about getting it converted to m forever. I also thought i would use it more than i do. but again, if it were leica m mount i bet i would use it alot more as i love shooting old fast glass on mirrorless.
@calebbrunkow3 ай бұрын
That is such a fantastic deal! Yeah using them on mirrorless is so great with the viewfinder and focus aids

A thing nobody ever talked about but i really dont like about the lens, is the fact that its not sharp across the frame beacause of its strong field curvature. The lens is not even sharp across the frame to the edges at f5.6 and at this aperture even the midframes are a bit blurry. At F11 its okay. I really love this lens, especially for portraits, but because of this downside its not suited for me for an "always on camera" lens for everything. I more like to walk around with the 58 1.2 because that lens is at f2 as sharp across the frame the dream lens is at f5.6, and therefore suited for landscapes much better.
@calebbrunkowАй бұрын
I hear ya! That field curvature definitely lends to the “dream lens” aspect of it but not great from a technical standpoint. Love the 58 1.2 FL!!

What a dream, I saw one for sale at my local camera spot. It was selling for 2300. Would love to have it but idk if I’d ever use it the way it was intended. Still amazing to see what it can do.

Glad you enjoyed the video, 2300 isn’t bad these days annoyingly

Had the same thought when I saw one locally once. Was like "Dream lens! But Dream on!" I just wouldn't use it enough to justify the hefty cost.

I think the closest to this one in terms of bokeh pattern is the Porst 55 1.2 which is the cheapest 1.2 of them all :D. The flare is not the same... those warm flares are typical for the older lenses with older coatings. Canon ruined the flares with the SSC coatings and the nFDs are even worse. For sure the Canon 50 0.95 is the most compact 0.95 lens even today, nobody made one this small or smaller.
@calebbrunkow3 ай бұрын
It is really small for its speed, crazy that it was made some 60 years ago. Super interesting about the Porst 55 1.2

TTArtisan 50mm f0.95 is cheaper alternative but honestly, I don’t think you will like it. I had it for a while, never liked it and sold it to buy this Canon f0.95.

What lenses are similar to this lens in your opinion? Top 5. This would be helpful to us, who love flare but don't want to spend $2-3k on a lens.
@calebbrunkow3 ай бұрын
The FL 58mm 1.2 is a great option that has some wacky flares. I know the LTM 50mm 1.2 is a popular alternative and even the first gen FL 50mm 1.4 is a good option that has cool flares but not quite the glow of the dream lens

Go through my thumbnails, most have this similar mood. A bit inspired sure but rip off is a bit harsh. A black background with text isn’t exactly the most creative thing ever
