Hey Hunter! Amazing content as usual. Just bought this lens (used lol) BECAUSE of this video, so sending you some cheddar as thanks for providing the single most quality content-filled video review of this lens. Your pictures alone say more than any 20 min long video could. The way that this ridiculously shallow DOF and gentle rendering augments your eye for composition yields amazing shots and I can’t wait to see more from ya. Don’t give up the GFX ;) your pictures are far too incredible to forfeit haha. Or if you do, I hope you come back to 44x33 format soon.

I pick a camera every year to review as much as I can and my year with the GFX just went up. I now have the Leica SL with quite a few M mount lenses. As far as the GFX goes, one of my favorite cameras and with that lens 😏 it’s so damn good. I have plenty of other photos that I can personally send you from this lens!

Hi Hunter! Great video. I currently shoot with the Canon R5 and have been looking at changing to the Fuji GFX 100s ii. How is manual focusing? With my R5 it's not too bad with Focus Peaking. Can you zoom in and use focus peaking at the same time on the GFX?
@hunterhart15 күн бұрын
@@matthewpaul01 I have not shot GFX 100ii, my settings were always: focus peaking + a separate fn button to pop in for zoom. I didn’t use both simultaneously, I believe you can. I just never did it. Excellent video. How hard is it to manually focus the Mitakon 65mm f/1.4? Do you have any recommendations for manually focusing on the GFX? I have the GFX 50R, I'm thinking about picking up the Mitakon 65mm f/1.4 lens. I would probably think using the lens with a tripod would be beneficial.

I used the zoom method a lot, so I’d have a dedicated button for zooming into my image then taking it, focus peaking helps as well

A lovely lens indeed, I’ve had it since ‘19 but with my 50R , slightly unbalanced - the images i get when I nail focus are outstanding. On the whole though the autofocus on the 50mm f3.5 is where I end up. Easier all round to shoot with.

Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it. I might pick it up... I have a Minolta 58 1.4 and a Canon 55 1.2 (both around 43-45mm) and I'm still dabbling with them so presently unsure. I recently got a Mamiya 80 2.8 for a really good price and am also feeling my way through that. Don't know the translation as its for the 645 system but it looks to be around 60mm. The separation is nice but of course nothing compared to the approx 50 1.1 here. I have the 45 2.8 and as you know it's fantastic... I highly recommend the GF 110 2.0 for tight portraits and such.
@hunterhart1 Жыл бұрын
I’m sure that 80mm 2.8 looks great on the system. I have adapted a lot of 35mm film lenses and it seems like only 50mm and up cover the sensor. The issue I’ve had is the softness with the lenses. I really like this lens because it is built for the large sensor and I know the older film medium format lenses are great as well. Id love to try the 110 one day. Thanks so much for watching my videos

I assume this lens is completely manual (which doesn't have any CPU/electric part) so impossible to achieve apperture priority? I don't mind manual focus... but manual exposure? Take a look at Nikon F or Leica M system, for example. Apperture priority on manual focus lenses is technically possible. When shooting on digital bodies, I expect more convenience. Of course wheen shooting with film, I'm 100% on my own, no automation whatsoever.
@hunterhart1 Жыл бұрын
I personally don’t use priority mode on any system at all, I just kind of learned that way. So, for me it’s just normal I guess. It also helps that I started with film so it transitioned over to digital easily. Thanks for watching

Cool lens, but couldn't keep it as it's focus ring turn in Nikon's way and that it is crazy heavy and huge. Cool lens through... but I'd stick to something a little bit lighter like a Zeiss ZM or Voigtlander M mount.
@hunterhart1 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I can definitely see it’s appeal and also the distaste someone could get from the lens and it’s functionality. I can’t find any lenses that are 35mm film lenses to cover the entire sensor which is annoying because I have a ton of them. I use the 35mm crop and still get vignetting and they’re so small on this massive camera it kinda feels goofy. I hope to find some in the future that work though. Thanks for watching and taking the time to tell me your thoughts
@Miniaminism Жыл бұрын
@@hunterhart1 Thanks for taking time to share you thoughts on it as well ! Nobody mension the focus ring being Nikon, that was a big surprise for me when I got it. As for 35mm lenses for GFX check out M lens mount (theres's a dedicated Fujifilm GFX - Best non GF optics/ Facebook group that goes over that). I've got some Leica R myself and they cover quite surprising well, and they don't have to shy from the Mitakon. (35mm Sumicron vignettes more on the corners but no hardvignette, 50mm and 90 summicrons are comparable to the Mitakon) Would love to try the Zeiss ZM as I've seen some wonderfull examples on this group. Good hunt ;).

If the UI and viewfinder were better on the GFX 100S I'd be all over this combo. The output is incredible, but the GFX body is so clunky in terms of menus and handling, plus the viewfinder is pretty weak compared to the newer Sony stuff. I'll be staying with a FF system until Fuji updates the GFX line with a better swiveling screen, better viewfinder, etc.
