The reason why the level gets darker the second time around is because the on off switch is off, this is sometimes a big hindrance when making dark levels.

Apparently when an on/off block is switched to "OFF," all light sources in a dark level have a reduced light radius!

@@Wealth_Wisdom_Discernment the level uses those floor ghosts to illuminate floors, the boos at the top serve to illuminate the thwomps that can come down. Lots of levels have rng, like bullet hell levels, and yet they are still creative. Making you play a level twice sucks, but only if nothing changes. It was a cleverly made level, and just because its a dark level doesnt mean its not creative or automatically “garbage.” Ryu even says he enjoyed it till the recycle, probably because it was challenging and not because the level bad. Compared to whats usually considered garbage, this definitely would not fall under that category.

Was just thinking this. It was pretty predictable with the Thomps and other stuff at the top being slightly visible until that exact chain chomp being completely hidden lol

@@DaGrubb97 Not just hidden; its placement defies the internal logic the level had built up of using visual cues (like placing all the thwomps directly over pitfalls) to warn the player of danger. Three times the player was presented with a cubbyhole that they had to immediately hide in to avoid a threat. The fourth cubbyhole had no matching threat, only to abruptly spring the danger in a different location that the level design indicated was safe.

MM2 is such a vastly superior game but is missing 100 Mario challenge. The fact it’s bigger opens it up to more hot garbage but it gets filtered half the time through the voting. The garbage or super challenging levels that do get through can possibly end a run. MM1 seems like it has much more hot garbage of similarity because of the lack of system it has. And honestly makes it kinda boring to watch sometimes. That dark level was nowhere near as hot garbage as anything you’ve played in the past few MM1 videos though.

The level is literally darker the second time around yes. Replay 11:43. The light circle around Mario and the ghosts gets much smaller after the on/off switch is triggered.

Hottest garbage definitely belongs to SMM2. Sorry not sorry, as someone who didn't have a Wii U, I still know the Wii U was a very undersold console and therefore, not as many awful level creators had access to SMM1. As an avid SMM1 viewer since mid-2017, I've seen some absolutely disgustingly hot ass garbage in that game, but SMM2 just made it so much worse because so many more people have Switch then ever had Wii U.

I really hate SMM2 super expert: 1. Only 30 lives with map full of hot garbage, all it takes is to have two of hot garbage/troll/kaizo levels and the run will be over in a blink; 2. There is no "real" goal but only to beat your own highscore, they should've have another mode that is similar like in SMM1 where you save the princess and have a clear goal; 3. Repetitive and monotonous.

The dark level was interesting in concept, but the execution was. Not great. I think Mario Maker 2 has hotter garbage; there's more ways to make you miserable, after all. However, because of the Boo system, you're less likely to come across that garbage during an Endless run. MM1 has no such filter on garbage.

The question at the end is odd. By definition it is MM2, simply because it has more objects to choose from. With more options, there are many more ways to make stages unfairly difficult compared to MM1. The only "hot garbage" MM1 has over MM2 are the overlay pipes. (maybe I missed some other shenanigans) The real question should be: which game do you prefer?
