Something interesting about the “first twice twice” is the name. It was never calling the idea of building an identical room “twice twice”, it was “Larl does everything twice, twice” but the creator left put the comma. The identical rooms were the first time doing it twice, and then it made you restart from the beginning, thus making you do everything twice a second time. You do everything twice twice.

And then "twice twice" became the term for the setup that made it possible - the Goomba room fakeout. A room that's an exact copy of another room, to fool the player into thinking they're somewhere they were before while they're actually completely elsewhere. With Mario Maker 2's scroll stops, that became even easier than before (although the lack of stacked pipes was a bit of a bummer), and was even used to disguise CP1 as CP2.

invention of the red coin was yoshi island when they had the scoring system for the levels where u had to have full time for baby mario on back 30 sec, 20 red coins, and 5 flowers to make up 100 points. at least that is where i furst encountered them in mario

I'd love to see a playlist of, like... the top 100 videos showcasing the highlights of the troll community's history, and some major milestones for Mario Maker in general, in chronological order. Of course, at least half the videos would be Carl's... and maybe 100 isn't enough. But still. Something where a completely new person could start with a gentle introduction and then just watch 1 or 2 videos per day for a few months, until they've caught up to today.

I wonder if the appeal of garbo levels is that there's some semblance of normal gameplay that contrasts with the trolls and makes them less predictable/more frustrating. And also the trolls tend to be more visible, so what happens feels less arbitrary.
