Disappointing to see my comment suggesting somebody take a look at one of Lightroom and Polarr Next's other competitors has been deleted. I didn't feel that was 'being a dick'?! 🤣

Personally I'd rather spend $250 then get a subscription. A lot of the reason I think a lot of folks want alternatives to Lightroom is because they don't want a subscription
@generalgrafx2 ай бұрын
That and I expect an alternative to offer at least the same quality and important features, not less.Polar Next lacks camera and lens profiles and the raw converter is lightyears behind the Adobe converter.

A promo code is just a bait tactic and makes for an unfair comparison. Apples to apples it would cost me 20$ a month to replace the software that costs me 12$ a month. And the only reason I wish to replace said software in the first place is because I want to get away from subscription models. And for that 12$ I also get to use Photoshop, while this seems to be only limited to being a lightroom alternative. I'm done with Adobe, but this is a worse option in terms of features and price.

It’s like coming out of a puddle and going into a well, why would anyone promote a cloud based subscription alternative to Lightroom when the whole problem of adobe was the nasty subscription

It’s quite interesting. I’m still searching how I can “escape” the adobe ecosystem for my photography workflow

Take a look at DXO Photolab 8. Don't have to import, and don't have to subscribe.

Culling assistant looks fun, but not enough to justify switching to yet another subscription model. I'd buy the culling tools as a plugin for lightroom or capture one or even darktable, but the rest of the program seems redundant enough to other software. There is not enough incentive to leave my adobe subscription for this one. If it was a one time buy, i'd consider much more seriously to get outnof adobe subscriptions

Interesting. I'll read up on Polarr, but I'll probably stick with Silkypix Free for my hobby Panasonic raws. Thanks. toronto.

Many people refuse to subscribe, but it is the best way to test a software first. With the software I am currently using, updates and new functions are free, whereas with the paid version you have to pay for them. And to reach the purchase price, I have to use the software for years. With the subscription, however, I can switch to other, possibly better programs.
@travelanАй бұрын
No way. I’ll stick with Darktable for RAW stuff and Luminar for AI edits. No subscriptions for software in my house!

Why would I pay the same amout of money that i could spend on Lightroom, and for a beta version ? Doesnt make any sense. And subscription? No thanks, I want to buy the software licence once and for all
@TomCalton2 ай бұрын
Beta doesn't mean broken - it's just in development. It's fully functional but you might encounter some bugs along the way. But bugs are still likely to occur in Alpha releases - just look at the state of Premiere Pro these days! 🙃 Ultimately the main selling point of this software is the automation. If you're in a line of work that requires you to batch edit large quantities of images (weddings, events, etc), this will potentially save you a lot of time. But if that's not you, then this may be a less attractive option to you.

@@TomCalton For automation I’d use Photomechanic. Cheaper, better, faster and no f*cking subscription.

Wow a spot healing tool! lol. Sorry mate. I enjoy your videos but there’s a pretty big conflict here, and this tool is not like Lightroom, it’s a fledgeling buggy startup that lacks features and is way too expensive, still.
@TomCalton2 ай бұрын
Haha! It's baby steps man. They're a start-up and they're working really hard to make something cool. The healing tool may not be groundbreaking compared to Lightroom, but the AI stuff they're doing is super handy for batch edits. But I'm sure they'll totally appreciate your honest feedback.

hang on a minute. you are telling me that you uploaded a 7 minute video about your sponsor where you are basically incentivising your audience to use the beta version of 'an alternative of adobe' for an extortionate amount of money?
@TomCalton2 ай бұрын
I personally wouldn't call $9.99 a month an "extortionate amount of money", considering that this is the same price of a Lightroom subscription, but then I appreciate everyone has different budgets, so no shade if you can't afford that. I'm also not trying to incentivise anything - name a single time in this video where I said anything remotely like "you NEED to buy this software!". All I've done is tested the latest features openly and honestly so that you can come to your own conclusions. Just like anything in life, if you don't think this is right for you, absolutely DO NOT buy it.🤷🏻
@Matty272 ай бұрын
Why can nowhere just have a reasonable, one payment editing software? If you do professional photography and need lightroom, you’ll end up paying $250+ every year, for what would’ve previously just been a single $50 payment.
