I think the amount of water types make it difficult to run fire as every team will usually have at least 1 strong response, usually 2

On the note about noctowl (which experienced both a buff and nerf in recent seasons), and kinda by association the shift to gligar as the premier flyer-I feel like one thing niantic hasn’t figured out how to do is making move changes that aren’t one extreme or the other; either completely irrelevant and doesn’t affect anything, or flips the entire meta on its head

I'd say Gligar is a better safe switch. You at least have some played into the fire type pokemon that tend to counter the team.

If it’s only one, you can probably try to double team it with zone and tropius and hope wiggly can sweep in back. Still tough but not necessarily an auto loss. 2 fire types on a team is a different story
