When I think of "pursue" I imagine someone running away from me while I chase after them, but I think what I'm understanding you as saying is that the man should be the one to take initiative in advancing the relationship (such as shouldering the risks, removing pressure, making her feel desireable, etc.). Do I have it right or am I way off base on this?

Pursuing is kind of like a dance. Both people are giving and taking. Women pursue too it's just in a different way. A good way to think of it is that women send the signals first. Then if a man is interested he makes the first more obvious move. Once a relationship is serious then it's more about leading than chasing if the relationship is balanced. I hope that makes sense, it's hard to explain in a comment. It's not you chasing her while she's running away. It's both of you moving toward each other. Showing each other you are interested. Men and women just do this differently.

Same thing happened to me, but I was on the other side. I started dating a friend of my Brother's wife and since he was too close for comfort, I wanted to take it slow. He, on the other hand, came across too strong and wanted to move things forward way too fast and I just couldn't handle it. It destroyed the attraction I initially felt for him and I ended the relationship before it got serious. I had previously mentioned to him that I wanted to take it slow but it just got him upset. I realized I'm looking for someone that has a more understanding and flexible personality.

I tried flattering her. It only pushed her further away when we went out on the first date. I want to re-attract her. I want to go out with her and re-attract her, by not doing anything flattery and by letting her come to me. I still want to pursue her, but I want to let her come to me. If I say or do anything flattery, she’ll be scared and uncomfortable. I did the same thing with others and the same thing happened. The next time we go out, it should just be as friends and it should stay that way a little bit longer because we need to take things slow. I want to ask her out on a date without calling it one. Coach Melannie the one on the date, which is my crush, said “I have a boyfriend,” but “you can meet him” and even clarified it via text and said to me, “you’re nothing more than a friend” right after saying “I don’t have a boyfriend. I used to.” The others, while not changing their minds to “I have a boyfriend,” still also said, “you’re nothing more than a friend” after I had gotten rejected by my crush. I also apologized to my crush via text a day after the date and said that I never expected anything beyond friendship. Then, rather than blocking me, she texted back by saying, “It’s fine.” Then, I did a 67-day no-contact technique. Then on International Women’s Day, I wished her a Happy International Women’s Day, but she didn’t respond, but she didn’t block me, either. Then, I did another no-contact technique. She publicly tweeted in the middle of March that it’s “going to be hard to get a bf because of the coronavirus.” Then, on the eve of my birthday, I told her to stay safe. That is a difficult situation to find yourself in! I never suggest getting involved with a woman who is in a relationship.
