In the Guillotine, the head can still survive up to 30 seconds after the decapitation. A few seconds are normal, 5 - 10. There are stories about the heads in the basket blinking and moving their mouth, trying to scream. The brain can survive for a pretty long time without oxygen, and there still are electrical signals hours after dead. It's no clear line. The thing with the Guillotine is, people usually don't fall unconscious, so the heads often times still move and blink before they die. Inventing something like that and calling it more humane than an axe, because the executioner often are drunk with bad, sour wine, and miss the neck, that's typically french. As a german, I know well how this always surrendering guys are 🤷‍♂️

The 1973 version is a lot better than the remake. It's just sad that the entertainment makers can only try to make a good movie. Most of what they make now is just forgettable two hours of wasted time.
