Class, sheer class. When it goes wrong, he blames himself, when he wins (which is often) the staff are all praised 🎉🎉🎉

In the US, the list of top trainers reads like a Who's Who of the worst serial drug offenders, and they're smug and smarmy. Across the pond, most of them are gentlemen, but Aiden O'Brien is one of a kind. He's genuinely humble.

@@controlleddemolition9112 The US has a lot of great horse trainers with good morals so don't lump everyone together and don't believe everything you read. D. Wayne Lukas, Chad Brown are two of the greats that come to mind. Tired of people who don't know diddly about US horse racing dissing it. It's a bigger industry in the US than in any country in Europe. Look how often we've won World's Best Racehorse in the last decade. We're #2 in Breeders Cup wins, we've won the majority of the Dubai World Cups. I've been a US racing fan since Secretariat. How about you?

@@user-fd9kq3rc7c I've been an avid fan and a handicapper since 1965, and I am from the US. Based upon your comments, I am quite certain I know a lot more about horse racing than you do. You mistake my opinions on the subject of US racing for either incompetence or bias, but they are based on the facts, which are indisputable. Do you have any idea how many drug positives most of the top US trainers have? Baffert has 30. Pletcher and Assmussen have over 20. Most of the top 10 trainers have that many. Moreover, we know that this is just the tip of the iceberg. When Jason Servis was finally busted in a wiretap, he admitted that he drugged every horse he ever trained, and very few of them ever tested positive. It's like Lance Armstrong or Barry Bonds. They manage to beat the tests, but that doesn't mean they are clean. Virtually everyone in the business knew that D. WayneLukas was using some sort of steroids. His 2yo filies looked like 4yo colts,, and not coincidentally, some of them died young. I once asked the great US trainer, Charlie Whittingham, what he thought about the likes of Baffert, and he candidly said, "I don't know if he's a good trainer, but he sure is one helluva pharmacist". Charlie was an assistant to the great "El Senor", Horatio Luro. In those days, trainers were real horsemen, but that's no longer a viable business model for a trainer in the US. I don't disrespect the qualtiy of horses in the US. Through the middle of the 2oth Century, US form was the best in the world. I do believe, however, that since about the mid 1980's when the sheiks, Sangster and Coolmore bought high-priced Northern Dancers and bred them in Europe, the form in Europe has surpassed that in the US. European and Japanese turf form are better than US turf form. As for my comment above about "form reversals", you might recall a NY trainer named Oscar Barrera. He once claimed a horse for $40.000 and ran him next time out in a Grade 1. He had been claiming horses and magically turning them into stars overnight, and bettors knew he was juicing them even though the tests couldn't detect what he was using. They bet that claimer to 4/5 in that Grade 1, and he won easily. I used to bet regurarly in the US, but now I restrict myself to the Breeders Cup.because the proliferation of PEDs has soured me on US racing.

@@user-fd9kq3rc7c WADR, I have been a fan and serious handicapper since the mid to late 60's, and I live in the US. My opinion about US horse racing is based upon facts. You mention Lucas. He might be clean now, but back when he was winning a lot, everyone believed he was using steroids. His 2yo fillies looked and ran like 4yo colts, and, not coincidentally, his horses rarely ran well after the age of 3. You mention Brown, who was caught cheating on his wife in a motel. As for the ones you didn't mention, most of them have over 20 post-race positives on their rap sheet. This list includes Baffert, Plectcher, Assmussen, Sadler and others. Moreover, we know that a negative test means almost nothing, much like in cycling with Armstrong or in baseball with Bonds and others. Jason Servis' horses passed nearly every test but when he was caught red-handed in wiretaps, he admitted that he drugged every horse he ever trained. There are some US trainers who are clean, but not many of them are highly successful or as successful as they once were, eg, McGaughey or Drysdale. As for the quality of US stock, it was probably the best in the world through the middle of the 20th Century and it's still very good. However, when the sheiks, Sangster and Coolmore bought up all the prime Northern Dancers at Keeneland in the 1980s and bred them in Europe, I do believe that European form has surpassed US form. Japan has also caught up.
