I originally wanted to show paddy around taking him on a tour of lower Sukhumvit I did for my kids several years ago 'A tour of organised crime in the big city'. Bangkok is ground zero for a lot of things and to understand Bangkok, you actually get a lot of good local and geopolitical lessons. After recording, we realised that putting that stuff on a KZbin clip wouldn't be wise on many...many levels, so luckily with Paddy's genius you have what you see here 😀

Thank you...in hindsight, it was a bit of a pent up brain dump after 18 years of running my CTF programme, but in it I tried to demistify Thai - and debunk many of the truisms that can lean to turning off people from learning.

It's such a change to see someone actually being able to have a conversation in the languages they claim to speak, compared to the new fad which is to say "I can speak 20 languages", but in reality all they can do is say "Hello" and "How are you" in 18 of those 20 languages, lol

Being able to speak 30 languages is a SUPER POWER 💥
@jeromestavrosyeo2 жыл бұрын
No, he can't speak 30 languages fluently . That is simply impossible. He can speak a smattering of all those, enough for it to sound legit. Can he understand a high level conservation talking about nuclear physics in Hebrew you think, or whatever language he claims to be fluent in. Bullshit artist extraordinaire
@yangtzeling74682 жыл бұрын
@@jeromestavrosyeo Do you know him personally or are you being presumptuous ?
@yangtzeling74682 жыл бұрын
@@jeromestavrosyeo Just because to you it’s simply impossible, you assume it’s impossible for others ? Have you seen a child prodigy on KZbin ? A math whiz ? A child musician ? Clearly , not only are you ignorant , but you are also very rude to label him “ BS artist extraordinaire. “ He never claimed to be fluent in Hebrew, so your example of this ancient language is irrelevant. Being fluent is subjective. And in my opinion, as long as you are able to converse coherently with the public, that’s fluent. Nuclear physics, medical science, rocket science, quantum physics….. has nothing to do with fluency !
@chatmongkhonpakthongchai9734 Жыл бұрын

I’d be fascinated to see Jay learning some new language in an FMRI machine, and compare that with both an everyday person learning, along with a ‘regular’ polyglot. Such a cool guy who is clearly not only an ultra-polyglot, but a real conversationalist. Great watch.

Though Stuart is a genius polyglot and I am not a genius anything, he still gives me confidence that if he can speak 30 languages fluently I can put my nose to the grind stone and learn to speak Thai at the least at a more comfortable strong intermediate level.. which is my goal. That was awesome. Necessity drives language acquisition. The Burmese and anothers don't have any choice. My ESOL teacher pal tells me there are people from the Middle East/central Asia who've been studying English for years in Glasgow, and their Greek - from a short stay in a Greek refugee camp years ago - is better than their English. They can get by in Glasgow without English, but not in Greece without Greek.
